Last week, on Wednesday, I went to Petco and saw three reasonably healthy S. gigantea, so I got them all. I have them in a hospital tank until I know that they are healthy because I do not want to exposed any disease that they may have to my healthy Gigantea. On Friday, one of the three deflates and have a large open mouth. I did a 100% water change and started them on treatment with Ciprofloxacin. Since they they have been doing well, no further deflation.

I think I may end up with some very nice color Gigantea from Petco, that is if I can keep them alive. Here are some pictures of them as soon as I got them into the hospital tank.

Saturday AM. Essentially back to normal, no deflation. I lighten the picture a little with Photoshop due to the white background. This show the color of the anemone much better.

Saturday PM. I took this picture at about 7:30 just right before the light turn out, after 50% water change and before add medication. When I add the medication the water cloud up a little. The are essentially back to normal. Sick Gigantea (and Magnifica) deflates especially in the late afternoon.

I talked to the salt water manager and point out the different species of carpet to her. She seem to take the information OK without being defensive. She tole me that she order Carpet anemones and they come in as carpets. It seem that all three species , S. haddoni, S helianthus, and S. gigantea, come in as carpets with the first two most often and only rarely Gigantea.

I have seen Gigantea there in the past but never semi healthy like the ones last week. When the weather cools down in October to December, there will be more small Gigantea.

Price wise, they price the same as small dull color carpets, which is 29.99 each. Low price or not, it is only good if we can keep them alive. When I saw them in the past, I judge them past saving so did not buy them. Consider I pay 300.00 for each of my Gigantea, 30.00 isn't a bad deal if they live. Even one of the three live, it still is a good deal. Otherwise I end up spending 100 for nothing.

Ace,
Just luck, that is all

I got one of the three anemone to my house into the QT. Here are two pictures in this tank. I have a breeding Onyx pair in this tank. They were really happy to have an anemone to frolic in. The sick anemone is still in TT with the other Gigantea. Both are doing well. In 2-3 days if this anemone is doing well, I will move him to the main holding system and move another anemone to the QT. The sick anemone will get full 7 days treatment. Through all of this ordeal two of the anemones did not deflate at all. Just one of the 3 deflated for 1 day, hut he seem well since (with treatment)

I also fed him a small piece of fish and he ate it quickly, about the size of several mysis shrimp

I like your idea of using a coffee cup to get them to latch on to something rather than just putting them in your main display. Good Idea.

I started treatment with Cipro 25 mg/gallon as soon as I see the deflation. I forgot to mention this. I started treatment on Friday noon-ish

Well, they have finished treatment and in QT (two) and in Holding tank (one) I am still building my system so I don't have DT, just holding tanks. I am just very happy that they are doing very well. Eating with gusto and growing. The one in holding tank is shaded by the two larger Gigantea, so I have to use a PVC pipe to keep this from happen.
