im looking into what pump to run. AC or DC there ones im looking into specifically is the sicce syncra or the reef octopus diablo dc water pump. the reef octopus is external though, while I could just drop the diablo in the sump

The big issue with internal pumps is wattage, because wattage is heat and with pumps they run 24/365. Pump draws 100 watts = 100 watt heater and cost around $90 a year for electricity. Use a mag18 at 150 watts = $132 a year or 50 watts for a pump $44 so if you spent the money up front for a better more efficient pump you may save yourself $100 a year in electricity cost.

so in theory then...the dc would be better because its external so less heat is transferred and being dc its more efficient so therefore less money spent on electricity?
