What salt do all you reef keepers tend to start with as a good solid base?

I think most start with reef crystal or instant ocean. I tried a few others but still use reef crystals..

Reef crystals. Everything in my tank is happy and growing. Haven't had a reason to change.

started my 150 with salinity and have been happy. i suggest starting with what you want to stay with, seems like people who go from other brands to salinity have problems with coral adjusting along with other stuff. i like the levels also after speaking with rep its best used after 4 hours so alk levels do not drop, i use my mix after one mixing at 35ppt

I've used Red Sea salt since day one. I havent had a desire to try something else. I know my tanks do well with it, so I really have no need too. And besides theirs always that saying to pick one you like and stick to it so it doesnt mess with your tank chemistry.

I've been using reef crystals with the reasoning that it had some added benefits. But I found this link last night which shows reef crystals and reg instant ocean are about on par. IO has the least amount of copper in the comparison, which astounded me. But I also couldn't believe in the report how low all the trace elements were in seawater, but that should vary by geographic location.

I like Red Sea coral pro. There was another study a few years back with some good graphs. Maybe someone still has the link. A few people started mixing io and reef crystals to get a balanced salt but I've never tried it.

I have ran Red Sea coral pro for years until I tried Salinity. I was one of the ones Chris was referring to above. My corals took a nose dive after switching to salinity which caused me grief and a return to Red Sea. After one month back on RSCP I am noticing a good turn around on my tank.

I have also ran brightwell when I had my nano at work and had good results with it.
