Sherita you are better off getting a new one hard drives only last 3 -5 years. I just got one in DFW at Tiger Direct Store on Hwy 121 in Euless, 500 gig for $59. They do online mail order mostly but if you get around the state quite a bit. There's also Frys in DFW(3 locations) or Austin that do mail order also.

used drives would also work fine. they do have have a higher chance of going out the older they are, but i have seen drives last 10-15 years. just depends on the use.
i have a 1TB drive that is about 4 years old. I only plug in a few times a year to back up all my data (family pictures, music, video, documents). the rest of the time its just sitting there. so its 4 years or so old with a few days at most of use. so its still like new. if you can find a used drive like this, where it was not left plugged in spinning all the time an older one would be a great option.

wal-mart, target, sams, ect had 1TB going for $100-$130 depending if u wanted external portable HD or external non-portable HD(need power supply). You can get 500GB at about $60 for a portable. Never leave HD connected I have had some of mine for since 05 and still work with no problems
