Im about to start dry rock aquascaping. I bought a big tonga plate rock I am absolutely set on using.
That said I'm not entirely sure of the best way to support it. I want it coming out of an island half way up.
Pics of said rock:

I weqr a size ten (8 in mens) shoe. It is HEAVY. PVC structure hidden with rock? I have marco rock mortar and reefrock rock plus two bags of nano rubble to glue onto things to hide it.

Are you going to bridge it between two rocks higher up or wanting it to simply jut out like a ledge, being supported at one end only? Trying to visualize it.

I have a large shelf piece similar in size, mortared it at about 30% and the rest is a shelf cliff thing.
That mortar can be some strong adhesive. But, like mike asked, shelf hanging out or bridge spanning tow structures?
The structure in the middle, it's about six to eight inches over hand. Poor picture but if you look closely you can see it.

I saw this guy's earlier. He didnt seem to be worried about the island falling. My Island is going to be bigger just due to tank size and this thing is for sure adding weight to one side. I don't want it to topple so need to secure the rock and Island some way.

John just made one like that. Smaller, but same concept. All mortar.
Especially if your base is solidly planned.

No pics. Remind me to talk to you at the meeting about it. I would be willing to assist putting it together if you want or need.

Hey John, the pis that you texted me should be in your photo roll.
Stef, John helped me and Ben design and build some structures. Both of them have really nice structures in their tanks. Ace is another that builds some amazing structures, but I believe that he uses gravity and patience.... I've none of the latter. :)

If you are volunteering John I'll take the help/advice :)
Kidding. John if you are willing to share knowledge/help I would appreciate it.
And Allan: I know all about gravity and defying it in helos. They are held in the air using physics and magic.

Yeah, they shouldn't work... :-)
I've jumped out of a few, another aspect of gravity, but I've never pondered the science behind getting up into the air.
I've tried using the balancing act for rock... But it proved beyond my capacity. I've even tried the PVC, milk crate, acrylic rods.... Mortar seems to work best for me.

That's fine Steph. I'll be glad to help out any way I can. Just let me know.
Helos ain't magic. It's the one bolt holding everything together that worries me.
