Well, after a bit of crying...I sold my 252 gallon keyhole stingray tank after our stingray died.
I decided that I can't do another stingray right now, and I really need the office space back for school again. However, I want my fish still...so I've found a rectangular 200 gallon I'm going to pick up in Dallas this weekend. It's going to be a nightmare to move...so I'm looking for help/ideas. Does anyone have any glass suction cups they could let me borrow or rent?
I'm planning to uhaul it back Sunday late morning or early afternoon. Anyone have their Sunday afternoon free and feel like lending me their back/arms? I'll buy the beer and pizza :)
Any suggestions or help welcome!
tia

I'm off 1604 near Green Mountain. Not sure on the time quite yet. Thinking I'm going to try to pick it up Saturday late evening and drive it home LATE Saturday or Sunday morning. Probably plan for early afternoon Sunday after church time. Would be very grateful for the help ace...what time are you available?

You are right around the corner from me... sort of. Close enough. Looks like you've got the help you need... my 210 was a two man carry. Shane's 240 gallon was a three man carry, two on one end and me on the other. :-)

What kind of tank is it? Marineland? DSA? If it has a rim on the bottom (trimming installed by the MFG) you probably won't need suction cups. You're more secure, IMO, by wrapping your fingers under the edge.

I got the MAAST low dolly if you need it, A-Z rental has suction cups for rent. I'd love to help, but have to take the kids down the coast this Sunday. It would be impossible for a 5'6" guy to help when you have a 6'8" guy on the other end...lol

Uhaul also has rental blankets for cushion.

No need to be humble here. There was 4 guys on 1 side of the 240 and Allan on the other. Allan did have a backup on his side, just in case.

allways safety first

Yep... And her instructions were to throw herself under the tank should I fail. :-)

nono Flyride was on your side too, backup, just in case

This story with aquasport 8ft tank was that Ladyredneck was going to the otherside up under the tank. The door was blocking going around. Then aquasport sat down with his tank on his lap.
That left the wife under the tank. We got her out. Silly she didnt know where to go. Its one of those you have to be there, to believe it.

3 would work, but I'm guessing (now that I think about it) about 2 guys should be plenty. It's only a 2 ft wide rectangle that should be easy enough to hold. Any special issues I should know about four painting the back? I want to be able to hide some of the plumbing behind it.

Pick a color and paint on the outside of the back. Tape the edges.

Or get some sunscreen tint. I had that on my 190 and it worked well.

Ok, I just picked up the tank and stand/canopy from Dallas. Wow...this thing is big! Any volunteers to come help me move it in tomorrow evening?! :-)

Okay, after a long night of driving, the tank and I arrived safely back in NE San Antonio. I'm hoping to get the tank out of the trailer and the back painted this afternoon/evening after football stuff is done. (Depending on whether or not I can move it...lol)
tomorrow after church sometime, I'm hoping to get the stand, tank and sump into the house and set up so that I can plumb it this week. Pictures will be coming ;)
However, if a couple of you awesome people that are going to the maast meeting tomorrow are still available afterwards to help....I could really use it. This stand is 7' plus, and 42" tall...and sturdy!
Also, does anyone know if the maast carts are still around? That would be a great help too.
TIA all!

Thanks Alton. Btw...anyone recommend someone that could come drill this thing for a closed loop. Preferably without charging an arm and leg? Lol

Well, after a long couple of discussions, I've decided NOT to add the closed loop (big powerheads instead). So, my wonderful wife, a very good friend and I....along with 2 sets of brute trash can wheels...managed to get the stand into the fish room today. Hopefully we'll get the tank into the house (don't trust the neighborhood kids) tonight. Thinking I'll probably need to wait until tomorrow afternoon when I can get a couple of strong-backed volunteers to help me lift this thing onto the stand. The stand is a total of 45" tall, so my wife and 20yr old daughter may not be the best help...lol. Can't wait to see this thing set up!

Why, if I may ask, did you choose to not go with a closed loop setup? I couldn't imagine my tank without them.

I know you are asking the op but I personally wouldn't do a cl because of risk of leaking over time. I already get worried about my overflow leaking and that would only be 30ish gallons. I couldn't imagine spilling 400 gallons. My wife would literally kill me.
So I just stick to larger power heads. Haha
Plus once you go cl there is no going back.

Just like Kevin said. More holes in the bottom of the tank means more potential problems. And, with modern powerheads, I don't really need that little bit of extra flow...especially for a fowlr tank. And, if I really wanted...I could always add it later :)

Now...all that said, I'm hoping (and praying!) that I can get about 3 strong volunteers to drop by after the meeting (or whenever this afternoon). It should only take 5-10 minutes or so. My wife and daughter and I managed (not pretty I might add...lol) to get the tank into the office with the stand. However, there is NO WAY we can get it up onto this tall stand without a couple more strong backs that are over 5'2"..lol If you're available to come help for a couple of minutes this afternoon, please just let me know what time works and I'll be here. VERY grateful for the help guys! TIA!

A Huge thank you to Alton, Ace, Cowboy and BBQ for the help this afternoon. It took us about 2 mins to get this tank up on the stand and set - I NEVER would have gotten it without them. Now....on to the plumbing :) Pics when I get a chance.
