Cleaning sand

What is the most efficient way to clean sand? I'm emptying about 250 lbs of sand out of my tank and want to clean some or all of it for use again or trade. It's Southdown sand that's been in a deep sand bed for about 7 years, so it's really full of just about everything. Trying not to have to use a million gallons of water.

I usually put mine in a five gallon bucket and run the water hose till the water coming out is clear. Also when you empty the tank stir it up and get as much out as possible when the water is draining. That helps a lot
