Salt question

This may sound worried but does salt water have a smell to it? I made 15 gallons of salt water using some salt I got before Christmas when I bought a tank. It was reef crystals and was sealed up in the bag unopened. I've never noticed the smell before but this bath smells strong. Should I be worried?

It should not stink, is your water DI or tap?

Rodi. Ya I figured. It smells like some kind of laundry soap without the foam and bubbles.

I've noticed a similar smell before with IO. But, if in doubt, throw it out.

I am mixing 60 gallons this morning and the only smell is from the plastic barrel smell, definitely no soapy bubbles. Did someone maybe use your mixxing container for something else? I had that happen one time the cleaning crew here in my office used my topping off container to mix wax in!
