I'm looking into purchasing an EcoTech VorTech MP10 and the battery backup. My question is for the ones that use it (regardless of the size pump) has it been worth it? Was there a difference seen from when you didnt have it? I looked at reviews and some videos. Obviously the cost is big. With the pump and battery backup it will set me back $400. Now on the flip side, everything in my tank is doing great. I have been using a basic hydor koralia with good success for years. Why replace whats working right? I just want to know if I would get more out of my tank. Will corals be happier, etc... This would be for my Red Sea Max 34 gallon. I also like the peice of mind of having a battery backup, so thats a big draw. Not really interested in buying a UBS.

I would buy one if its in the budget. Sure, you may never have to use it, But the one time you do it'll be worth it.

I have never had the battery back up for the years ive had my mp40s. So i can say the extra money spent would have been a waste in my circumstance. Im always close to home so i dont really need the extra security.

now the pumps on the other hand have been money well spent. Take up little to no room and the features are pretty neat. I just realized how much water they moved last night.... Long story but in the years i have had them i never really paid attention.. Last night on its lowest setting i realized how powerful they are..

There is cheaper alternatives, but in any hobby you get what you pay for... My ecotechs havent did me wrong since i got them and its nice to pick up some replacement parts if needed locally... Mine didnt break but i was giving a tune up to one i bought used..

I would have to wait on the battery backup...The space saving is nice, but I'm more interested in it making more of a difference in my corals/etc...

I think the only real complaint I have heard about them is the inability to direct the flow like can be done with koralias. I think it comes down to what you want, and what you want to do with it.

Ryan, come check out my mp40 when your over here. It's a bit louder than the 10 but the features are the same. I can let you mess with the controller to get comfortable with it.

Dont need to direct flow if its pulling from everywhere.... They are amazing pumps, i wouldnt want any other pump... But i do want to try a wavebox oneday just to see why there are some that swear by them...

I want a wavebox just because the wave looks more natural IMO. But yeah, you can really get a good idea for the pumps during feeding time when you see the food get sucked from the other end of the tank into the vortex

Tony, I have both so I have some experience behind what I'm saying. And "pulling from everywhere" or not, the flow cannot be directed like a koralia can. Doesn't make the mp's better, or worse......just different.

I have too many fish, food doesnt get time to settle lmao...

i was actually killing aiptasia last night.... I went to war, different methods but tank looked horrible and stuff was everywhere... When i turned off my mp40s with the return off, it pulled stuff everywhere.. Keep in mind my mp40s were in night mode at 10% when they were pulling stuff.... I was amazed, it seemed to move in slow motion so i got to see the power....

You can buy used at a (usually) fairly hefty discount. I bought my MP10wES and MP40wES (multiple) at big discounts ($100+ off on the MP40wES' and $90 off the MP10wES)
