I'm thinking about ordering some of this food but before I emailed, I wanted to see if anyone is interested in a group order. If so, let me know and I'll email and see what our cost would be.

EDIT 07/28:

Group buy has closed and everyone has paid!

Corilline purple means you've paid! Cyano red is something no one wants, and means you haven't paid. :P

ducati996 - 2 reef frenzy
JerryD120 - 1 reef frenzy 1 herb frenzy
ramsey - 5 fish frenzy
stephaniegarcia06 - 15 reef frenzy
nanoreefer11 - 1 reef frenzy
coralreefexplore - 2 reef frenzy 1 fish frenzy
scutterborn - 2 reef frenzy
madfragger - 1 reef 1 fish
footballdude2k3 - 3 reef frenzy
kkiel02 - 2 reef frenzy 1 herbivore
Southern Flame - 1 reef frenzy 1 herb

I'm emailing Larry from LRS right now with our order! I'll keep you guys updated. Just FYI, he's been watching this thread too so he has an invoice mostly done. Fun fact, our order is going to weigh about 40lbs! That's a lot of fish food!

UPDATE - 9:09PM 07/28

Alright guys, here's the deal:

"All 8 oz packs of Reef, Fish or Herbivore Frenzy will sell direct for a discounted $18 per pack!

If the club gets more than ten packs ordered I will only charge a flat $20 shipping charge and I will absorb the difference of the $45 Fed Ex 2 Day Air rate, PLUS the 8 pounds of dry ice at $1 per pound and the $8 cooler cost for the premium coolers we use. Therefore 15 packs would total $290 or $19.30 per pack DELIVERED."

Obviously, if we order more, the deal gets even better. For reference, Rod's food currently goes for about $20 for a 6oz pack (before tax and/or shipping).

I think most people thaw it, but you don't have to. The selling point for me isn't it being quick to feed, it's the ingredients, price and I'm hoping it's less "chunky" than Rod's food. I'm currently using Rod's, but it's chunky and has big clumps of nori in it, which nothing in my nano eats. Plus this should be cheaper than Rod's food and from looking at the pictures and reviews, it seems high quality.

If anyone's skeptical, here's a discussion of it on RC:

It retails for ~$20 + SHIPPING. Since the closest place to get it in store would be Houston, you'd have to pay for shipping which would make it considerably more expensive than the ~$19 we're going to be paying. Also, like I mentioned before, I feed Rod's which is ~$20 for a 6oz pack so this ends up being a much better deal for me, so long as it's just as good as Rod's or better.

Sounds good on the LEDs, just holler at me when you want to meet up.

Hey this is my first post!

I wanted to personally thank everyone for participating in the group buy. If you have not visited Reeffrenzy.com or our Facebook page at Facebook.com/Larrysreefservices, I would urge you to do so. We are a family of reef fanatics who are dedicated to producing the freshest and highest quality reef food on the market. I can assure you that NO ONE in the industry is getting human grade seafood and blending it into fish food. Don't believe me, then click here to see what we grind up.....http://www.larrysreefservices.com/FRESH_FOOD.html

I have had customers email me and said the Fish Frenzy tastes like sushi! (OK alcohol was involved, but that is a true story.)

You may not know this but I was in Law Enforcement for a decade and had small part time SW tank service company for the past couple years. I began to make food for my buddy's local fish store, and then a second store wanted our food. In the beginning we blended food using only a bucket and a spatula in our kitchen, with a home blender. As word about our foods grew, we obtained the proper NC state feed production licenses, Certified Lab Results, UPC Barcodes, Trademarks, and inspections to be a "Pet Food Manufacturer." We also moved into a 100% commercial kitchen prep area with stainless steel sinks and processors, as well as back up generators for the numerous freezers.

In March of this year I resigned from law enforcement and began to make food full time, because I had no choice. Due to the Internet, web forums, Facebook and other inquiries the food business literally exploded. We are proud to state that as of the Summer of 2013 we are sold in nearly 100 retail outlets, and have the support of over a dozen web forums which we sponsor. We literally have acult following of people who "Hand feed Frenzy Foods to their fish." Not to mention we have some pretty strong testimonials listed on our website from top names in the hobby like Jason Fox and Mr. Saltwater Tank.

What makes our family owned business different is that I answer every email, phone call, and PM personally and promptly. We support brick and mortar stores and reef clubs by facilitating future group buys to be delivered to a local store, so that both can benefit. We also can create custom large fish FOWLR blends and tweak a few packs so you can get our blends "just the way you like them."

We are really excited about MACNA this year and we are taking the "Reef Frenzy Express" on tour to FL and back. Thanks everyone for your order and my family of Reefers (and Jackson) appreciate the support. You will not be disappointed with your order.

I couldn't help myself, I just fed a tiny amount and I like what I see so far! I saw some large pods I didn't even know I had come out of the rock and scurry around, my fish got really excited AND my pistol shrimp that I thought was dead since I haven't seen him in MONTHS came scurrying out to get his treat! Larry said that it takes a few days for things to get used to it and really to crazy. I already like what I see!

Also, the food smells like fresh seafood when thawed. It smells fishy, but like the fishy smell that fresh shrimp or fish has, not like something that's been sitting around or frozen for a year.

So I picked up my order today from ramsey waited untill about 10:30pm to feed my fish and reef what I noticed was instantly after placing a chunk of this in the tank all my fish where drawn out of hinding and eating like pigs in less than 30seconds my cleaner wrasse usually grabs a piece of mysis and spits it out tonight he wasn't letting go of whatever he had also noticed within 45 seconds of the food being in the water every coral in my tank had the feeder tentacles extended overall I'm really impressed but I'm still getting use to the extreme fresh seafood smell other than that I give this two thumbs up

Yeah this food ia extremely "dense" the usual half inch square gave me about 3 to 4 times the amount of food then the othe frozen mysis i i used to feed

I've noticed the same thing. I broke off about the same amount as I use with Rod's and it went much further. I usually break off enough the last me 3-4 days and soak in selcon and a tiny bit of garlic. I ended up just pouring some out because I still had so much left over after today. I also noticed that it smells more like seafood you'd buy for your own consumption and less like fish food. It also looks a lot like fish food that I've (painfully) made in the past from store bought seafood. I might make some gumbo with it and see how it turns out. LOL, just kidding.

How has the feeding response been for everyone? My fish like it, but they're pigs and very small. My sexy shrimp go bananas and "run" across the tank for it. Curious to see how bigger fish have reacted to it.

EDIT: I didn't see the posts before nanoreefer's saying that the feeding response was good. Glad everyone is liking it so far!

Everything about this food has been positive for me. All of my fish went crazy for this, my tang liked it too, but he likes meat more than most I have seen. This takes longer to thaw because it is so dense, I liked rods before, but I will never use it again. Rods has a lot of chunks that are too big for anything in my tank to eat, but this works perfect. It smells just like going to a seafood store, I love this stuff.

Thanks for all the positive kudos folks about our foods. A couple of things I wanted to mention from an information sharing and not advertising point of view. (So as not to anger the MODS)

1. We have spent a year soliciting feedback from hundreds of stores and customers on the exact "texture" desired. It is impossible to make one blend that is suitable for clients with a 200 gallon reef with 7" fish and also be perfect for a nano customer. The majority of customers polled had tanks smaller than 55 gallons so we try to keep our particle sizes appropriate. The good news is that the freeze/thaw causes cellular walls to weaken in the food so you can simply stir a little or a lot while thawing in a cup of water to get the pieces as small as you want. If you have smaller fish, simply stir the blend in a cup with a fork and it should break apart nicely. If you have larger fish, you can drop the frozen chunk in the tank and let the fish nibble on it as it thaws.

As a side note we have a very discriminating collector who we make custom blends for on a regular basis. This gentleman has some species that are rarely obtained in the US, and he feeds LRS Foods. We made a "chunky" blend yesterday for him and a store with a 1400+ gallon display tank who requested a special blend.

The link is here: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2002370&page=50&highlight=reef+frenzy

2. For ultimate freshness and to ward off the breakdown of the essential fatty acids do not let the food remain out of the freezer for more than enough time to snap off a chunk. Freezer burn can set in due to the constant removal from the freezer if condensation is permitted. I think Ramsey mentioned he was leaving the food in the fridge for a few days, and I would advise against this due to the rapid degradation of HUFA. We add ascorbic acid to combat this, but it does not eliminate it entirely.

3. Much like a high quality dog food, our foods are rich and contain no fillers. Therefore you can feed less than with many other foods. You should also note the lack of a "murky" cloud when feeding our foods because we do not add coloring agents as our competitors do, which simply float away in the water. We prefer to use Pacifica Krill which are naturally high in Astaxanthin, which boosts the orange pigments in fish. Here are some feeding hints: http://www.larrysreefservices.com/Feeding_Guidelines.html

4. The comments on the fishy smell made me laugh a little, because our shop doesn't even smell like fish since the foods are so fresh and kept so cold. I would hope that the food blends DO smell like fresh fish, scallops and squid because that is exactly what is in them. I would wager that if you compare our smell to the unnatural sourdough, yeast smell of a popular competitor's product, your nose will find ours more pleasing.

5. If you are a heavy feeder (as am I) or have a smaller system you may wish to rinse the Reef Frenzy blend a couple of days a week if you choose to feed it every day. Most tanks don't need the daily addition of Phyto, Oyster eggs, Zooplankton, Rotifers and other micro coral foods, since corals get their nutrition from the symbiotic relationship with zooxanthellae. Now granted, we add these in nominal amounts to avoid overdosing anyone's tank, but due to differing feeding styles, water change schedules, GFO/Carbon, and filtration capabilities some tanks can be fed more than others and process these nutrients.

Thanks everyone, and we are getting quite a few store inquiries in TX so hopefully you will have several local sources soon.
