View Full Version : Treating red bugs

Okay, after reading some positive results on RC I've decided to treat my tank with the spectrum interceptor containing the old chemical milbermycin oxime and the new one; proquental (sp).

The latter chemical is the same as what's used to treat flukes. I don't have any special worms so that's not an issue.

So I took off the gfo, carbon, and sunk the air intake on my skimmer.

Crushed up the chewie, dissolved it in a cup of hot tank water, dropped it into the tank.

So I'm standing there me there calculating how long to treat for when my wife comes in to inform me that we are going to six flags...

I have 30 gallons ready for a water change when I get back.

I will treat again next Saturday.

I did a 20 gallon WC when I got home last night. This morning everything looks good. Carbon and gfo are off line ready for PMCS, skimmer is also still offline. I will put it on in a few hours when I have the time to ensure it's tuned in properly.

PE is much better this morning and here are some shots. The RP has a lot of tissue recession from the bottom up, but that pretty much stopped when I dipped in Bayer.

I'm blaming the loss of the pink milli on proximity to the torch that is slowly becoming one of those corals I don't care for.

The PE on the Stuber has always been minimal, but it's a bit more now than it was last week.

I may go ahead and treat for flat worms during the week, just for giggles. I'm thinking the praziquantel in the chewies should take care of any worms in the tank, but the dosage is so low compared to what you would ordinarily dose for flukes.... Not sure it will have much of an impact.

How are you going to restock your pods?

Naturally. I don't believe it knocks them completely out. Or if need be I will by some pods to reseed.

One of the reasons I didn't get the mandarins that I wanted last week was because I knew that I would be treating the tank.

It went pretty good, haven't peeped any crabs, but I only had a few anyway.

PE is looking good. Nothing seems awry. I can't see any of the RBs.... But then again I can't say that I ever did see them. The RP was suffering from something though and the receding pattern was similar to RB.

I will get the carbon on today, I hope. Mamma has me doing all sorts of stuff around the house.

Glad everything went well. I dipped the RP frag in Bayer's and I haven't seen anymore bugs. I've also looked at other acros and haven't seen any. I'm hoping I got them early enough but I'm keeping a close eye on them.

......

Red Bugs are easily seen. If you cannot see it chances are there was no Red Bug

Yeah, wasn't able to see them last time either, but after treatment the coral began to recover.

Todd was able to see them last time, even when I couldn't see them. Just poor eyesight I guess.

I have a 38g nuvo so I can look really closely at corals. If not for that, I would not have seen them. Maybe they were just young or something but they were tiny and had they not been orange, I would not have seen them.
