Nice to see this up and running! Are you planning on looking for a replacement for the 8' tank?

heres a full tank shot and the monster Bubble Magus skimmer fits in this sump. Awesome I get to keep and use the skimmer. check it out

Did some extra work on the sump today. Picked up an 18 inch cube from Ace today. Thanks
gfo/carbon reactor and skimmer have plenty of room.
I did receive an acryllic sump from Ramsey too, thank you, it will be brought into the left side for a large refugium.
Not in the picture yet. More work to be done.

Just out of curiosity, and I know this would pale in comparison to what just happened, but your sump is really full, is there any room in there in case the power dies?

BBQHILLBILLY
Thu, 11th Jul 2013, 08:17 PM
theres 2 sumps, the left side is not even half full, the cube on the right is allmost full, still 2 inches down, ill hit power soon and test, but should be fine

BBQHILLBILLY
Thu, 11th Jul 2013, 08:50 PM
did a power test during feeding time and sw level only went up 1in, easily passed power test, good idea to test

Shane congradulations you can't keep a good man down.
By the way you are still in the lead for the most tank builds. LOL

thank you thank you thank you lol I dont see this tank moving. Its the perfect for the spot in the fishroom. Out of the way for an eventual monster tank.
This tank came from FSU and is really sharp. Awesome setup. May put wheels on it and let the wife have it in the livingroom.

Really nice setup what kind of led's are you running. Better yet what does your setup consist of and what do you plan on having as far as live stock. I can't wait to see it finished.

chaos in the sump area, need to organize better.

I have added a couple of reactors, and have updated pics.
I am now using an SMR1 pellet reactor and a gfo/carbon reactor.
Some things I have noticed. The pompom xenias had to be moved. Did not like the gfo or carbon.
The pellet reactor is feeding one of the pumps on the NAC77 skimmer.
The sw is a a little hazy, but not to bad.

shane it doesnt need to be directly plumbed into skimmer mine just feeds in same chamber as skimmer. it doesnt release a ton of co2 like people once thought. make you read new articles on pellets and from someone who has used them atleast a year

thanks for the feedback, I have noticed today, the green tip toadstool is not showing the tips, it may need to get moved to the 45RR/40B (no reactors) setup

I have been running 2 reactors for 1 week 1for gfo/carbon and the other for pellets. first test PO4 is .64ppm and NO3 is greater than 10ppm yuk

BBQHILLBILLY

so from my understanding, no water changes for 4-8 weeks and let the pellets do their magic???

why? they dont work over night, so nitrates will keep climbing, treat your tank like you would normally, water changes, swap out gfo all that stuff.

sounds like a plan, Im gonna change the gfo and see if the phosphates drop

also shane overtime those plates on bottom will get clogged with pellets as they dissolve. so watch the tumble and if starts to drop check plate.

BBQHILLBILLY
Wed, 7th Aug 2013, 02:38 PM
i may have to pull some pellets, some are sticking to the bottom plate sdfaksjfah fqehfl qwnoe,
Ill pull half and ,place the other half in a sealed container

once you pull them they are trash. so just leave them turn up flow a little see if they unstick then slow it down. they shouldnt stick to bottom at all if you have enough flow

I will try to rinse the pellets, pulled half rinsed with ro water and stored in sealed container, running 450gph/2000lh through the reactor for 1 cup of biopellets, may need to increase pump size for more cups

BBQHILLBILLY
Wed, 7th Aug 2013, 03:15 PM
i can see how the RO pellet reactors seems to be a better reactor than the SMR1. The middle tubing that is the conduit for the intake has only 2 openings on the bottom.
So you only have good flow on 2 sides but the other 2 sides have little flow and/or is dependant on the flow of the other 2 sides.
why not just cut the holes off and have even flow, hmmm Maybe this allows the tumble effect for the pellets.

PO4 is 0ppm and NO3 is greater than 10ppm yuk some new gfo removes phosphates pretty fast; duncans have to be moved dont like the gfo
I seem to be moving more coral in the 45 cube then this 100RR with pellets, gfo, carbon

BBQHILLBILLY

The water of natural coral reefs contains very little phosphate, typically around 0.005 ppm, significantly lower levels can result in a kind of coral bleaching (Tissue cannot regenerate anymore), so this should be smallest desirable concentration.
Serious decrease of coral growth was detected at concentrations above 0.1 ppm. This can be considered ideally as the maximum level you should have in your reef tank with stony corals. 0.25 should do if you only have easy coral species, below 0.1 ppm seems mandatory for the more sensitive ones.

retested phosphates and they are very low, so low I cant accurately measure it, it has a small , tiny hint of the smallest color

i like your copy and paste stuff but if you read any directions to all phos removers they tell you remove slowly because a drastic decrease in phos(goes for all parameters) can be stressfull to tank. so if your phos is high and corals are fine then quickly removing phos will stress them.

a lot of good info, mostly for myself and anybody else interested, I put 2 cups of gfo and woola close to zero reading. Did not realize the power of gfo.

That's an awful quick drop bro.

BBQHILLBILLY
Fri, 9th Aug 2013, 10:52 PM
yes it is a fast drop in phosphates, The reactor had been full gfo/carbon but had exhausted within 2 weeks and I had not checked the parameters. After checking, Got the gfo refilled in and within a day, PO4 so low cant measure with what i have. hopefully it wont exhaust so fast this 2nd round

Did a 20 gallon sw change today. Using the Red Sea test kits. I cant get my nitrates down. Waiting on pellets to help. Still have some algae problems.
Both feeding and lighting have been reduced. Tried the calcium test but it wouldnt change color for me.
PO4 .08
NO3 12
Alk 11
Mag 1280

I appear to be getting an egg smell caused by the pellet reactor. any ideas on the reasoning
pellets are tumbling and reactor is feeding 1 of the 2 skimmer pumps
both gfo and carbon are also running

nitrates are between 12 and 16 color did change somewhat
also i noticed the algae feeding off sw changes so may hold off on sw change for another week

Algae feeding off of salt water change??....

20 gallon water changes did nothing but cause problems on my tank.... 32 gallons worked for me.

its not enough flow or it clumped from lack of flow, open it up or see if you can verify any dead spots?

BBQHILLBILLY
Sun, 18th Aug 2013, 12:01 PM
Not clumping, no bad spots on the tumble. Funny the egg smell appears to have dissipated, maybe from the carbon. . . .
It has done this before, small duration of egg smell. lol It occurs for a couple of hrs than its gone.

no progress on nitrates, going to a 10g sw change every 2 days for 1week retest, then 10g sw change 2 times a week retest, nitrates still at 12 ,
waiting patiently for pellets to take over:bigsmile:
not picky just trying to get under 10 slowly
