My AC went out around 1AM this morning - it's fixed already, house is cooling down but the tanks still climbing - its at 87 degrees.. and it's held there - so I think it's getting ready to start dropping.
I know there is a ton of variation between all our systems - but I'm wondering if there is a general principle on how long a box of water will take to normalize to room temperature when all the lights are off. the only pumps I have running are my return and my skimmer. Closed loop is shut down, as are the reactors.
house is currently set at 73 (not there yet) per the repair guy.

Definitely depends on how large the system is, the bigger the system, the longer it takes to cool, I would either make some ice out of RODI to put in the sump or put some frozen ice packs in the sump.

Blow a fan over the surface of the water. Making ice takes a while and you could do this until the ice is ready. Mind you, ice metls extremely fast in our water, ice packs are better IMO.

My question is how hot did your house get? My AC has gone out several time times and my house got to 85 after a day, with the tank getting to 82? I did have my 200 before upgrading to the 300 so it did take a while for the water to warm up.

It's not as much about the box cooling (slowwwwly), but about heat loss from evaporation. Conversion from liquid to gas takes a LOT of energy - and that's the temperature drop you see. A big fan will do wonders.

Operation Big Fan is ago.
The house peaked at around 87. The tank runs a little warm - a combination of the pumps and the halides... The halides should be gone in a few months and then I'll probably need a heater for the first time in years.
House is down to 79 - the tank is down to 86.5

Great stuff, the fan will help a ton, completely forgot to put that down, but I have two fans that I turn on if anything ever happens with the A/C. How big is your tank?

the display is 210 Gallons - but it's got quite a bit more volume.

It's down to 81 degrees - which is where it usually hangs. Thanks for the feedback everyone!
