Well, I am stressing and hope I can get more input to reduce my stress. I've been talking to excal and he has recommended the following.

raise the temp to 79-80
lower salinity to 1.020
and keep feeding food w/ garlic
among a couple other things.

I plan on getting fresh garlic to press for the juice to soak the fish food in and feed that too.

I don't have a QT so my options are limited.

Any other help would be greatly appreciated.

And thank you excal for all the help thus far!

I would be careful with the garlic, there has been testing done to show that can cause liver damage to fish. Do you have a tank for QT, or is that what you are lacking? Have any other fish started showing signs of ich? When did this start?

I don't have a tank for QT set up, but may consider getting a large container, but even then setting it up would not be an overnight solution to deal with this?

I haven't noticed any other fish with signs.

noticed it yesterday.

everyone is eating fine.

How bad is it on that fish? You can setup an emergency QT, make some saltwater, put a sponge in your DT, when that water is ready, do a water change, take the used water and put that in the tank, move the fish into said QT area, move the sponge into there as well, that would move some of the needed bacteria into there.

This could be something that passes if you leave it in the DT, but that is dependent on the fish itself and how bad the outbreak is.

I am mixing water now for a water change this weekend. and was going to setup a 12g nano this weekend so I will setup the nano as a QT for her, and hope for the best. Should I lower the salinity in the QT for this? And how long should I leave her in quarantine?

Thanks so much for your input!

Obviously depending on the size of the fish, but a tank that small might stress out the fish more, I would lower the salinity a bit, I would leave in QT for awhile, at least a few weeks if possible. I would try to find a longer tank/food safe plastic container to give some extra swimming space.

Always happy to help out.

She is about 3" and now my 5" yellow tang is swimming real erratically... But I see no evidence of ich on her, can't really get a good look at her gills though...

I will see if I can get a larger container.

Had same prob with my powders. I used "Herbanta". Texas Tropical carries it. Worked really well and reef safe. Ick was gone in 2 days.

I didn't have to quarantine either. Was safe on all livestock.

You can buy a really large Tupperware tote bin from the dollar store real cheap and a bubbler for airation you will have to do frequent water changes anyhow to keep the ammonia down but that's the cheapest fastest emergency QT I can think of

Thanks for all the help guys. I have never setup a QT before, so I have a couple questions. Is a QT only to 'confine' the sick fish? Or, do I need to do anything different? Like lower salinity? raise temp? Meds? And an aerator no circulation pump? Anything else?

Like I said, I really do appreciate all the help! MAAST and the members are amazing!

Oh, one more thing. To get the QT started do I start it with my 'old' water when I do my water change?

When i QT I use fresh water no DT water for me and since I have an aqurium I use a hang on back filter with no media at all and the salinity I used on my tang was 1.014 and focus and metronidazole in food I tried lower but she quit eating at anything below and I freshwater dipped to clear gills she spent 3 months in QT for ich

No it will be fallow no sand, rock or anything but you can get a PVC elbow at Home Depot or lowes which ever store you prefer to shop cause you will be water changeing everyday to every other day to keep the water pristine. I personally WC every day 50% and once a week 100% and sterlized the tank HOB filter heater and PVC. I may have went a bit over board in some peeps minds lol but when comes to my fish salt and fresh I'm OCD about health and care,Food and what ever else they may need and I stress over small factors some don't but that's just me

Think I am going to quarantine ALL the fish, so I can get rid of this once and for all... Although it will be a challenge, I think it will be worth the effort.

Thanks southernflame. I feel like I am stressing with the fish, although I know it's tougher on her than me. It's tough. Do you QT your new fish before introducing them to you tank?

I added a uv on mine and it helped a ton with the ick.

Yea I started QT'ing new fish but I haven't gotten anything but a cleaner wrasse of lately so I acclimated him and added him right away but I do have a green spotted puffer in QT and a blue velvet damsel who got beat up in my DT by someone which I still WC Every few days even tho I am running carbon filter pads and I still 100% WC and sterlized once a week and that salinity is same as My DT I'm just afraid to introduce them as the blue velvet got his rear handed to him and they are known to be the mean aggressive fish

Wow, that does sound OCD! Don't think I could endure all that. But you probably have the most disease/parasite free tank on here.

I am probably going to add a UV sterilizer as well as do the complete quarantine. I have had several people mention that I should get one.

Yeah on my 55 I added a 36w and it worked also did carbon changes.

Do you recommend a specific brand? Or is there a difference? My DT is 260 gallons, my understanding is I need 50 watt minimum...
