I bought an RLSS DB10i and it's pretty hardcore. They have the DB12i that's even bigger. It's rated for 400-700g:

I haven't actually hooked mine up yet, but I can say the build quality seems very nice. Nice thick acrylic and solid.

Here's a reef octo one that's cheaper:
http://www.saltysupply.com/Octopus-Diablo-12-Skimmer-with-DC-Controllable-Pu-p/oc9195.htm
Still more than the two you posted, but closer to your price range. It might be hard to find a new skimmer of that size for $300-$400. You might be able to find a good deal on a used one though.

stay away from anything with psk2500 and attman pumps. seen too many with problems. sicce psk1000-1200 are great pumps and used by many top skimmer manufactures

any start up issues... seems to be biggest issue with them. the 1000 is the upgrade version basically

it sounds weird if the psk2500 pump is up higher than grd level 2 inches it seems to come on everytime, maybe just coincidence, I turn off, clean, and starts everytime

I have the reef octopus extreme 8000 and the sea side aquatics as21 both running on systems at our new Braunfels store. I love both. They are all built, have good pumps (bubble blaster and 3x sicce psk 1000 respectively). Very silent operation and good even bubble foam/production on both. You are more than welcome to come check them out anytime. Also have a PM bullet xl3 with double injectors and an iwaki 100 running at the uc shop. Very good as well just really tall.

I have this one and love it. For the price, I don't think it can be beat. I only can run for an hour a day on my 60 gallon system. It produces an instant thick foam head. Dc powered so it only draws about 50w at max speed. Dead silent as well.

The pump mounts to the bottom plate which then mounts to the skimmer body by thumbscrews, so you can take it all apart.
