So this morning I noticed my hermit crabs were all over my gold maxima clam. I got them all off and thought nothing of it, got home a few hours later and again they were all over it. Once again I knocked them all off, picked up my clam and it was hollow, completely cleaned out, dont know why or how. Does anyone know of this ever happening or probable causes???

Possible that your clam was already dead this morning, and they were just trying scavage what was left.

Agreed. Hermits are scavengers, the only go after dead or dying tissue.

Clams are hard to keep and maxima's are one of the hardest. What type of lighting do you have? Filtration, water parameters, etc?

He had been doing great, opening up nice and good, he was good early this morning. I have a nuvo 8 with par 38 led lighting with weekly water vhanges. All of the other corals seem to love the water changes and sytem.

im guessing it was a small clam.... so water changes and a par 38 isnt enough it will also need to fed if small. yes your coral would be fine but a clam is not in the same family and require different care.
