used it inside the tank with no issues just give it time to cure .....36h or so

I usually use it on the outside, did you paint the inside of the back panel?

i had a internal overflow pipe in the middle and painted it black

I personally don't like spray paint for glass, hard to get even coverage and often leaves pinholes. You also don't need krylon if it's going outside the tank (which is what you should do if you are painting the back). I use krylon fusion if I need to paint PVC or something else that's going in the tank, but for the back of the glass, you can use either acrylic or oil based and roll it on. I prefer to use oil based with a 4" nap roller and a brush for the edges of trim. It will take about three coats to get nice even coverage. Oil will stick better long term, acrylic has a tendency to peel off.

Consider tinting it limo black. Much cleaner look and easy to do.

falls off over time to much hassle in the end IMO

I've used it on all my tanks. No issues. Installation may be an issue if it falls off. I don't think it has anymore chance to fall off than tint on a car window.

Just used valspar from Lowes. Just taped the edges well and sprayed it on. Looks very even and uniform. I went with dark blue and looks even better after I painted my stand white.
