So finally decided to give my skimmer and pumps a good cleaning. I had nuisance feather dusters encrusted in my skimmer and pumps so I used a very large dose of acid; 1 cup to 5 gallons. I let the skimmer run for about 2 hours and afterwards the coralline just rubbed off. The pumps look almost new. Just be sure to use rubber gloves if you try this. I did end up breaking one of the baffles which separated my fuge and return section. Had to think quick on my feet to repair that one.
