Hey everyone, I need some help ID'ing some things in my 30g :)
this appeared on a rock where my kenya tree is attached to. Wasn't quite sure what it was, but it'll eat! fed it several types of food(brine, cyclopeeze, mysis)! I'm thinking maybe an anemone? if so, is it harmful?

These starfish are living throughout my live rock, what kind are they and are they reef safe?

The little anemones are called Ball anemones. Some people have had trouble with them becoming a plague, but normally they just kind of fade away over time. If they get to becoming a problem, you can remove them using kalk paste, AiptasiaX or Joes Juice.
And the starfish are micro brittle stars. Great to have in your tank as part of your clean up crew. Most definitely reef safe.

I agree the small brittle stars are nice for the tank but like most things you can have too much of a good thing. Years ago I had a tank that got so many of those things they started choking out my LPS they were everywhere in really large quantities. Eventually they had a massive die off and bout crashed my tank. I ended up pulling every piece of live rock out of the tank and doing a strong dip on them. The brittle stars came out by the thousands. By the time I was done I had a 5 gallon bucket half full of dead brittle stars.

Most ball anemonies will stay in a shadowed part of yer tank. As sherita stated...mine usually just dissapear after a while. As far the brittle stars go i dont see them harmfull in any way. I also love to count all the lil "fingers" when i feed:-)

Thanks for the replies everyone. There is so many of the starfish, it's hard to capture on pictures. I don't want them to get too out of control. Would a harlequin shrimp eat them by chance? Don't want to quite eliminate them, but I would like to keep them in check ;). Also, an excuse to get a shrimp!

Harlequin shrimp would be hit or miss with those stars. I had a tank with those stars and asterina stars as well. I purchased a mated pair of harlequins and they devoured the asterina stars and left the rest unharmed. Once the asterinas were gone I had to supplement them with a chocolate chip star fish every month.

+1 mine never ate the brittle stars. They're good to have in my opinion so I wouldn't worry about it.
