We had those suckers. We did fresh water dips and eventually a Green Wrasse got rid of them all.

I noticed it while checking it out in the bag. Sucked it out with a turkey baster. It was an acro colony so I dipped it with 3ml of 10% povidone iodine for about 25 min. Killed a couple smaller ones with the dip. I hate those things. They've nearly wiped me out a few years back. Everything from this order is going to sit in the QT for a couple days till I have time to look them over real good again and possibly do another dip.

Finally someone else that uses iodine for their dips. Picked up some back in 2008 when I was just getting back into sps and they wiped out all my monti's. Now, everything in my tank has been clipped from their original base, glued to fresh plugs, and get a 30 minute bath in betadine before it goes into my tank.

Absolutely... Always clip them from their base if at all possible. Toss them to the side and just re-use them down the line once they're dead, cooked and clean.

Started using the 10% Povidone Iodine in Cali where it's the dip of choice among BAR members. It's pretty good stuff and there you could always get it free from the club so what's not to like. The general guide I use for it I've found to be very effective.

I just mix it with saltwater according to coral type. Immerse the corals in the dip, and agitate periodically with a turkey baster. Inspect for pests and their eggs. You may find redbugs, acro eating flatworms, red planaria, monti eating nudibranchs, zoanthid eating nudibranchs, zoanthid spiders, and others.

The pests may be stunned enough to be blown off the coral, but not necessarily killed also.

After dipping, rinse and quarantine the coral.

Basic guide for dosage and timing...

Acros
3ml/liter 25 min

Montis
2ml/liter 10-15 min

Zoas
3-4ml/liter 25 min

LPS
3ml/liter 25 min

Softies
3ml/liter 25 min

Some corals have tolerated up to 2ml dip per 8oz saltwater for 25 minutes. Montis may lose color at this concentration of dip though. 2ml/8oz should be the strongest concentration to use if you are experimenting. Iodine levels peak at approximately this dosage rate, and will actually decrease as you add more of the dip.

Good info on the dips. There always seems to be questions. I use Bayer dip for all my incoming hard corals now. I think Cory and I have talked about it before, but I always try to clip bases and plugs off new frags. Only tie I don't is if I know for 100% it is a fresh plug. Majority of nuisance items stray have come into my tanks in the past has been from mounting plugs.
