So I have two types that snuck in on me.

bryopsis - bringing magnesium up to 1700 to deal with it, SPS is taking it ok but I did lose my oregon tort.

for the matting algae it is very much like the grass on a putting green, matted and very short but sticks to the rock pretty well. Doesn't ever get very long just matts. Turbos love it.

Water parameters
Nitrates 0
amonia 0
nitrites 0
Phosphates 0
8.1 - 8.2 ph
calcium 450
magensium 1700, was 1200 but bumped it up to kill the bryopsis

I run biopellets, skim lots, rox carbon, gfo

I do not run a refugium currently.

question is does anyone know how to get rid of the carpet algae other than adding more turbos?

you can sort of see the matting algae in this pic

How long have you been upping the mag? Is that seeming to have any effect on the mat? Can you get under it to pull any up? If so maybe scrape and siphon on the next water change.

Pic kinda looks like hair alge with green cyno growing on it

only 4 days for bumping up mag, and yes it appears to be having an effect. The algae really doesn't have the consistency of hair algae at all it is very compact and matts onto the rock.

I can also pull the algae off a little easier now so I think I will keep my mag at 1700 for a few weeks to see if this resolves the issue. I do a 15 gallon water change weekly and that is when I scrape and siphon algae off the rocks.

a refugium with a lot of chaeto may help, under tank or hob

I personally would keep that method up for a while and see what if any difference you experience. Have you seen any change in your parameters to cause the growth?

I haven't seen any changes really. I did go through a cyano outbreak and then the algae. I'm going to stay with the elevated mag and also am using more gfo.

i say run a fuge and get it going, i have a light you can use and cheato and culerpa(not the best but it works quickly and never had any trouble running it). hit me up

i still run a big fuge and run bio pellets and gfo and i know it helps with algae control

I've got some chaeto I can give ya. Are you considering a remote fuge?

Maybe couple the suggestion for a lrg macro fuge along with a UV. Just a thought. I never thought much of uv sterilizers that is until I started using them recently.

I swear my tanks look cleaner since running uv in them...but then again maybe it's all in my head, kind of like when you clean your car and you think it is running better lol.

It's not just in your head. A properly set up UV sterilizer does work and, in my experience, works rather well.

Well a good wax will lower your drag coefficient and improve your mpg...

Thanks Chris I'll hit you up for some macro. I also use a UV sterilizer on my system.
