In the tank is 7 Scarlet Reef, 2 Blue Damsels (1" each), 1 Firefish Goby (about 2"), and a 1 Peppermint Shrimp. Question is how often do I feed them. Everywhere I read it is different, from 1 - 2 times a day, and read that most pet shops feed 3 times a week. So what is the appropriate amount of times I should feed, as well as how much. Food I have on hand right now is seaweed, deli shrimp, and frozen formula 2.

You won't be feeding seaweed....

ive never fed my shrimp, shrimp....

I feed my fish 2-3 times daily..... But my filtration is somewhat up to par.... I wouldn't recommend doing so with weak filtration.....

says the phos king, no wonder your levels are crazy 2-3 times a day. my fish get fed couple pinches of pellets and frozen once a day or every other day

So I should be good then with once a day? Somewhat worried about the amount I put in there, since no matter what the Damsels go crazy after it, just like the Hermits, the Shrimp just dances around and darts towards the food once it is close to him. However, most of the time the Goby stays hiding during feeding times, at least last night he did. I am a lil worried the Goby is not getting enough food.

Right now, my filtration is not up to par as of yet, working on some concept ideas for a HOB overflow to a refugium/sump that is costumed built, and adding a skimmer.

The seaweed I got for the raw shrimp to mix together and puree to feed the fish, not the shrimp. Shrimp seems fine with the formula 2 so far. Will be going to the store around the 1st of the month to go get other foods.

And yet, you won't find a single strand of LHA, dirty sand bed or any cyano.... ;)

Hard for me to say this, but I wouldn't feed once a day if your filtration isn't there yet.....

Save the seaweed for tangs, my damsels won't touch the stuff....

Might want to see exactly what the firefish naturally eats.... Might not be anything your feeding.

I have an auto feeder for pellets that feeds twice a day and I feed frozen food once a day on my big tank. The nano, I feed one to three times a day. The big tank is mature and has plenty of micro fauna for on between feelings and the nano I still seed with micro fauna from the big boy to keep populations up. If your tank is not mature enough to provide micro fauna for the inhabitants to munch on between meals I would feed more often. However, keep an eye on portion size, you only have 3 small fish and two critters that are supposed to eat detritus so it shouldn't take much to feed.

Only thing I have fed so far is the frozen formula 2, after thawing I take half of the portion and put it in tank near powerhead to spread it around the tank.

As far as the firefish, he is coming out more, just did a small feeding and he went right for it. I know naturally they eat zooplankton and algae, but will also eat finely chopped crustaceans, brine fish that has been vitamin enriched, mysis and prepared foods. I am guessing they really not that picky when it comes to food.

Half a portion is probably too much, when I feed frozen to my 2 wrasses and 1 purple firefish in my nano I suck the thawed mixture up in a syringe and only feed 1/10th of a cc (the very very first small mark on the 4 or 5 cc syringe they give you for free to give children oral medicine).

o ok, didnt realize that small amount was to much, since it seems they ate 95% of it within 30 seconds. Good to know, guess I need to go get another syringe. Have one dedicated just to chemical testing, so now another one for feeding.

I feed once a day around 7:00pm. I dont have the means to feed more times a day since I work. I have had no problems with any of my fish. They are all healthy and doing great.
