Every reefer should have an ro/di system. I can go through 45 gallons weekly between sw changes and water top off. Im using 7stage 150gpd BFS system.

Mine came with when I bought my tank second-hand, its a generic 6-stage from a company no longer in business and it works great. I've used it to fill up my Kerug coffee maker, to make bottles for my youngest before she switched over to milk, to top off my freshwater tank, as well as my saltwater maintenance. Beats getting 5 gallon jugs filled constantly elsewhere any day of the week.

So what do you estimate the cost is to produce a gallon of water versus purchasing?

I pay about 25-35 cents a gallon for water from LFS, I'm sure it's gotta be MUCH cheaper than that.

+1 for this and you also have to think about the gas you spend to go to the store to buy the water and the energy of lugging the jugs to car then from car to house. And some stores only sell ro water not ro/di water. At home you an check Tds yourself and know how long the water has been sitting and so forth. I love my ro/di and wouldn't ever go back to buying water. Just my 2 cents

yepers I have 500 gallons of sw to contend with. 20sw change on 240, 10sw change on 65, rest is water top off, 45 is maxed, could be 35 or 40,
its nice to make your own ro/di water as much as you want when you want it:bigsmile:

So what RO/DI unit would forum members recommend? Local person who services tanks want $1.00 a gallon, I can buy distilled water from Walmart for .88 cents a gallon....

i run a bulk reef supply 7 stage, dual di resin and dual membrane. as long as your water pressure is above 65psi you can run dual membrane and double the out put. so i run 2x 75gpd membranes making 150gpd saving water along the way

Russ and his crew are awesome about answering questions and will set you up. Also check out our other sponsor - Air Water and Ice. I have ordered from them and have great experiences there as well.
