Hey guys, I purchased a toadstool about a 3 weeks ago, for the first two weeks all the polyps were fully open, then in the last week the polyps havent come out and now has some yellow spots on top. Im not sure if its normal behavior or do I need to do something with the water. Ive read that sometimes it does that when its about to grow, and I have been feeding it directly before it closed up, but I also read that it could be an infection. I have attached a picture.20312 Please help

Looks like he's getting ready to shed. Toadstools and some other leathers will periodically close up, get a "shiny" appearance to them, and then shed a layer of mucous/tissue like stuff (looks like snot). It's normal behavior. When mine do it, they may stay closed for up to a couple of weeks.

Are you seeing any signs of melting, or is he just closed up but the tissue is still firm? If he's closed up with firm tissue, I'm betting he's about to shed.

BTW, there is no need to spot feed a toadstool. They are primarily photosynthetic, and will filter very tiny stuff from the water column.

Mine does it as well. I've kind of sped up the process by taking a turkey baster and jetting some water over its surface.

A filmy substance should lift off the surface. For this reason I've always sought a location where water is always rushing over the surface.... Not beating it down, just a gentle flow that will keep it clean.
