I told a few people that dendros were photosynthetic and that they would benefit from feeding and that they come out during the day.
I was wrong in saying they are photosynthetic. They are actually non-photosynthetic.
So, yes, they will benefit from regular feedings.
And yes they will come out during the day...unlike Sun corals.
They are very hardy and I guess I always just thought they were photosynthetic since they are out during the day and I don't spot feed them much. But I feed the tank a lot of food so I'm sure they are getting plenty to eat.
My suggestion on care is to place them in an area that gets moderate to heavy indirect flow so that they can catch food and try to spot feed once a week.
They can also take some time to acclimate to a new tank. Once you see the polyps starting to come out place some food on it. It only takes once and they will be out all the time.
Not happy with your dendro purchase? I will lift my 48hr return policy and will offer full store credit refund on this coral even after its been a week or two since I gave wrong info out.
Let me know. Thx.

Yea my dendro is not out yet but I force fed it yesterday and it is looking better. If you have to you simply put the frag into a small Rubbermaid and place a full block of brine shrimp in there. The water gets really "dirty" with the scent and it will be out in about 15 minutes.

Mine has made significant progress coming out. I can never get the bottle method to work since it always falls over but my dendro is coming out more by the day. Hoping to get full extension within the next week.

Ive been meaning to message you about the coral as mine doesnt open up figured something was wrong but glad I found the thread on it. Will try to direct feed tonight, but seems strange that it would not open at all as I spot feed the frag rack twice a week with phyto. will update after weekend.

...it would not open at all as I spot feed the frag rack twice a week with phyto...
they do not eat phyto. they are carnivorous and need larger food like brine shrimp or mysis.

Thanks for the help, the dendro swallowed a fat piece of plankton relatively fast. Im actually surprised how fast that sucker consumed it. So should i spot feed each polyp individually?
