I use both you need both! bio pellets only remove some phos not all. I tried it out and phos went up slowly with pellets alone

you have seen my tank so you know they work. but it all comes down to how you set up your system and what you want out of it and how much you want to put into your system

I like your tank Chris! Seems to get great water flow and like the aquascaping....Could you post a pic? Getting new tank set up this weekend... Any pointers?

I also use gfo and bio pellets with great results and I feed alot with 3 tangs in a 65g and that im not proud of but will be upgrading. I think they are a great combo ;)

I feed 6 times a day on average, but i dont have the average skimmer either lol. Like said above: its all how you setup and also husbandry. That is something everyone will agree on. I say take your time. Adapt to your systems needs once its matured and you have a routine. Take things slow and max out the flow.

oh i DO carbon dose vodka which i guess is another way of nutrient export like those bio pellets. the pellets are much easier to work with. more plug and play once you get the amount correct i think. gfo always confused me. if you have the proper skimmer doing its job properly, i always figured why do GFO? it seemed over-redundant to me. maybe if someone fully explained it i guess i would be better off. and if our friend here is looking for info, why not explain it on his post i guess lol. others will learn also =)

I am using GFO on and off. I was using it for about a month, no algea growth & 0 phosphates but even with the prefilters in my reactors I was getting red soot everywhere so I took a break and only ran carbon. I reintroduced the GFO yesterday and made sure to add in a bit of poly filter to help catch the small particles that escape the reactor. I also rearranged my rock work to fit a bunch of new corals. I think the sudden use of GFO and moving my rock caused a slight bacterial bloom and my water is cloudy today. Hoping it clears up.

I noticed a couple of months back my water suddenly got cloudy and I have heard GFO will do this from time to time. I thought it was my reef crystals at 1st but when I removed the GFO and did another water change it cleared up.

Anyone else have this problem? Maybe I should switch from the BRS brand..
