I have been having some issues in my tank. Loosing all color in my sps and lost a couple nice colonies. I was wracking my brain and asking others what they thought. In my experience there is three main things that cause sps issues- alkalinity swings, bugs, and phosphates.

I don't have bugs.
My alk is a little low, but stable.
My Red Sea phosphate kit showed 0.08. Little high, but no where near causing my issues that I was seeing. I tested three different times and came up with the same results in that ball park.

Chris and Allan came over today to help me with the tank issue so I didn't lose everything. I have been down the last couple of weeks with another back I jury so that didn't help matters either.

Long story short. Hanna phosphate checker showed .20 and .22 on different tests. Bingo! I have a winner for my issues.

That brings me to being really tweaked that my Red Sea test kit was that far off. Because of this I will no longer recommend the algae test kit for reliable findings.

Yeah, it was a good visit. Chris and I working like Hebrew slaves while whitey John standing there gripping tightly his cane. He was so angry at times that his legs trembled in fury.

That's fine Mike. I appreciate it too.
We were just talking about the issues and because of my false readings on the test kit I didn't narrow out the phosphates. So Chris offered to use his checkers to double check my test. Kind of an impromptu gathering.
