magnesium is what i just used. And it is all gone. Assuming what i had was bryopsis. You dose it slowly to raise your magnesium up to around 1650 and then maintain that for a week or two to make sure it is working. I started noticing die off around 1400ppm. My magnesium was kind of low to begin with. But it did the trick. I no longer dose it and i have no more hair algae nor bryopsis.

I heard that bryopsis only responds to tech M from Alex at Phenominal, can't vouch for that but just a heads up.

What brand or type did you use. I bought a sea hare but I lost him on the second night to a powerhead

Most who have dealt with raising magnesium to deal with bryopsis swear by Kent Tech M.

You have to raise your Mag levels slowly and all the way up to 1400-1600. It's a time consuming process. Do a search on google and you will find more info than you care to look at. Good luck and be ready for a battle.

I used Kent Tech M. I had a larger volume system so i had some wiggle room when figuring out how much to add to raise it. 29 gallons is going to fun. Be very carefull. Patience is not on of my vurtues and i did some questionable math when raising the levels.

I threw literally thousands at bryopsis. Including 2 Tech M dosings. Nothing worked. Tore down an outstanding reef tank:

The thing that worked for me was pulling out stuff individually and nuking it with a hydrogen peroxide water mix and let soak for like 10 minutes. Some stuff needed multiple dunks. Then I ran a lot of GFO to elimate the nutrients of the stuff I couldn't get to. Seemed to work for the most part. If you have a fuge scrap all your macro and start over because it's likely the filaments made there way in there. Take all all your pumps, heaters, probes and bathe them in hydrogen peroxide too. The key is to stay on top off it. You will stress the heck of corals and some might die but it would die anyway once the evil green monster gets ahold of it.

another vote for Hydrogen Peroxide 3% (H2o2).

DIP rocks
DIP zoas
DIP equipment

Dose tank @ 2.5ml per 40gallons for 7 days straight and increase up 5ml as you progress.

...that's just what worked for me...do a little research and see what worked for others in regards to H2o2. I dose my tanks regularly year round once a week and every day for 7 days if I see any signs of pest algaes...which happens from time to time since I order coral.

I dip zoas and live rock with H2o2 aggressively when new additions come in.

I can vouch for this from personal experience

Post pics to make sure it is bryopsis. If it is the mag trick is an easy solution. Hydrogen peroxide would probably work but it is the hard road

Oh and don't hesitate to take it up to 2000-2300 ppm for the mg. get yr snails out though. It's a muscle relaxant for them and they won't be able to move.

I had byopsis and Kent Tech M and carbon dioxide knocked it right out.

And that is just dosed in the tank. I did not pull the rocks out to dip in carbon dioxide.

Yep....dealing with the same stuff....h2o2. I shoot it directly on my branching Duncan and boom....all dead, algae that is. I even dosed my clam that was attached to a rock and covered in it...****ed it off but it turned the b.algae to mush...scraped it off with a tooth brush....going to more

Haha. I bumped my mag up to around 2000ppm (didn't mean to take it that high) and all my astrea snails fell off the glass. I flipped them over and did a few WC and they were back to normal but it was kind of funny. I didn't lose any of them.

Still fighting the bryopsis though. I didn't use Tech M, used BRS :/

I beat it with a hammer. Took the rock out and chipped on it till the sucker was gone, rinsed it in peroxide and back into the tank the rock went
