There was a really long post about this on another forum. But they have basically figured that this lime is pretty much the Same thing chemical wise. But there are many others that will only put things with a label on it saying it is for aquariums.

Don't know about a reactor, but I've been using it in my auto top off for years.

Ball Pickling Lime is what I use to buy from HEB years ago. I never had any issues with it, and I ran it through my kalk reactor. Good to see it become available again....Thanks for keeping us informed.

I've looked for this before, for ease of finding it. I was thinking that this would be a cleaner substitute since its purity would be food grade, or regulated by the FDA.

Flyride is right though, only difference is this doesn't say it's for aquarium use.

I tho k it's funny tha we see stuff that's food grade for humans and yet we still have reservations about using it. :)

Sure you can! One "can" drink water out of a ditch too though. :)

I don't think you can drink ditch water Chris. Prove it and document it.

Lots of folks have used this method with great results along with other homemade recipes. I also agree with Ben that human consumption has far more stringent regulations. For me it comes down to simplicity and buying reef ready items is far easier.

Plus, all I saw opinion that pic was the watermelon on the bag. I miss some pickled watermelon rind.

I found this article talking about utilizing vinegar in the Kalk mix. Any one ever do this?

I thought about it putting a tee after my check valve so I could add vinegar in every so often to make mix super saturated. it gets stirred 6 times a day

I used the Ball's Pickling lime back in the day, then I couldn't find it anymore. I haven't looked for it, thanks for the heads up.
