I was doing some reading on ocean temperatures this morning and came across a stat that said most ocean reefs are in temperatures of waters anywhere from 82-86 degree Fahrenheit. The article also said that corals kept in water much lower temperature than this at 78 degrees have a metabolism of about 50% less than their natural counterparts and are less likely to survive infections. With that being said I'm curious what temperatures do you guys keep your reefs at? I keep mine at 77.7 on the dot but I've been considering upping that to 79.5 or 80 due to the growth results and colors I've seen from my gf's tank which keeps an 80 degree temperature.

Is this your daily swing? Or the temp over time?
If it's the second do you notice better color/ growth with the two degree increase?

I keep mine at 78.5.... when I ran MH I struggled to keep it at 79-80. I grew faster then, but it may have been the MH.
For the sake of experimentation I can raise my temp to 80 and run it a few weeks there to see what happens. But without a control not sure I will be able to show a significant increase.

We keep ours at 79-80 we left out of town for the weekend a few weeks ago and when we came back we found out our ac was not working right and the tank was at 86 when we got home but everything in my tank looked happier an bigger than when it's lower. I was worried about everything and now that I'm thinking about t maybe I should test the theory cause my stuff looked great that weekend now it looks good but just not popping IDK

Do it slowly.
I've always heard that 78 was like the perfect temp. But my first tank stayed at 82. One day it climbed to 85 and my snowflake didn't make it. Not sure if that was due to the temp though.
Since them I've labored to keep it no higher than 80. Now I keep it at 78.5 with the RKE. I think I'm going to ride the temp up one half degree a day until I'm at 81 and let her ride for a few weeks. Just to see if there's a noticeable change.
If algae starts up... Well coral growth isn't that important to me.
