View Full Version : Mandarin courtship

We got this female mandarin from Karin last spring and the whole time we've had her, she's constantly looking like she could just burst. When Karin gave her to me she made a comment about how she seemed to be full of eggs (but she used to have a male partner in Karin's tank). So a couple of weeks before Christmas I saw a tiny juvenile target mandarin male and on impulse I bought him to give her a little boyfriend. (It's a big tank with a lot of pods and she eats frozen). He has grown quickly and really filled out (she has taught him to eat frozen by example) and they are doing great. Tonight we saw full courtship behavior for the first time. Mostly it was C.C. (that's the female's name) doing the courtship as he did not seem to be quite as interested or know what to do. I caught a few seconds on video and wanted to share.

Very cool. You just need to add a soundtrack! Maybe "Lets Get it On" or that "Oh Yeah" song from Ferris Buellher.

Cool. Your tank, at lest where they spawn is very shallow and fast moving water. If the water is deeper and flow is a little slower, they can really dance. I love the mating dance of my green Mandarins.

Wow, nice video. They are such cool fish and are my wish list for a pair, if I can ever get caught up with what I already have. LOL
