I have no clue what is now growing on this shelf rock. It seems to be eating the zoas. hmm heres an ugly phone pic
Should I be patient or should pull the rock out scrub that part and put back in?
The 2 pics are on opposites sides of each other.

there both different type of sponges.. sponges dont like air, try taking the rock out of the water for a minute or two, scrape as much of it off as you can and then put the rock back in, the zoas should be fine out of water for that short time. And with a little luck the sponge will die off

I've got a sponge growing over a zoa frag I had gotten from someone. I thought the sponge was more interesting but the wife wanted it gone. I pulled it out for no leas than 15 minutes and picked as much out with tweezers. The zoas are fine an the sponge is growing back.

Sponges don't require much material to regenerate.

The only sponge I've had that can tolerate the light are those yellow ones, and they tend to stay just beneath the rim of the zoas.

Well
I think I now know who I got it from! ;)

I like it. It's a groovy tunicate.

Lol, maybe. I've not had any sponge material put on a frag plug in well over two years. They often get caught up with the bambams.

I found an old pic. I had to crop it from my phone. That's why it's blah.

I had the same type of sponge choking off whole colonies. A fresh water dip did it for me.

I just took a machete to the sides and underneath the flat shelf. Sounds like it may come back.
Tuan you said a fresh water dip. How long? Just put it in a bucket of ro/di fresh water.
