My suggestion is a 14 LED dimmable setup that you can suspend over the tank.

It'll take about 3-4 days to ship to your front door.

I bought the 36 LED kit & am thoroughly enjoying its ability to grow all my SPS, LPS & softies.
However - if you are planning ok only doing soft corals - you may consider a 24" 4-bulb T5 high out fixture.
Any brand name will do the job.
As a matter of fact - Sherita(MAAST member) has a smaller T5 fixture she may be willing to part with.

I do have the wavepoint fixture and have zero complaints about it. Had it running for 9-11 months.

Everytime I look at the par38 options witha goosneck, it get more awesome. You change the lens spread and pic your LED combo. These are powerful LEDs.
There 3 watt Leds running at 2. Get and pick what you want with a par38. These may very well be my next light purchase.

Depending on the size of the tank, you may not need a par 38. here some links maybe a par30.

You don't need high power LEDs, 1 watt LEDs will work perfectly on a small tank....
if you build a fixture or buy one, the 1 watt will save some $$...
i was running 3 panorama pro strips on a 24 gallon aquapod and that thing look sick, an they aren't even 1 watt LEDs I believe...

I had one par38 bulb and it was crap... Don't know which bran it was but I wouldn't recommend one... They are more spot light-ish..
2 would be sick though...
I've been wanting to buy one of these

just to try them out...

I agree with you 1 watt should do great. But 10 gallon is small. Im using a 12 in wave point and its bigger than the tank. They make smaller ones, but even those are big footprints.
Which has the smallest footprint, comes with 3 year warranty, and has the largest selection and LED power. And can moved to any position?
par 30 with a goosneck
I should add Im a big fan of pico tanks. You can put them anywhere.

My son has a par38 bulb over his 10gallon and it is really powerful. Mine is controllable via remote and it is at 60%. I may raise it up higher because it is a bit spotlighting. But I like it just need to raise it. http://i.imgur.com/SRnzSMo.jpg

I think these par38 and par30s could be the next wave. Heres a link for a par30 with specifications and a great review.

My sons needs to be raise a foot. It looks really nice but like I said it will be a total 14-18 inches off of the water. Right now it is only 7 inches.

That's my 12" high output wavepoint led on top of my 10 gallon ATO reservoir...
It's no way bigger than a standard 10 gallon tank.....

looks real good but I can see the spot light...
plus if you raise it your going to have even more light spillage...
koa(mike) modded his wavepoint to add onto the hood that is provided to help with spillage.... See if he chimes in.

I doubt par 38s will do diddly squat on a tank that big...
Unless you run a bunch....
And at that point, might as well get some nice fixtures that will look cleaner and do much more..
Just my opinion....

All good Matt...
Nothing like lighting discussions... They are funny, informative(sometimes), and all in good fun..... At least for me.
I would run any lighting....I'm not biased... But I like what LEDs offer as opposed to MH.... But nothing beats MH in growth..... YET!....
I'm thinking about flipping the switch on my other t5 that's in my canopy, I've had one on for a few weeks now with my Vega's and I really like what's going on....

Wed, 20th Mar 2013, 10:45 PM
BRS released a video the other day on lighting...
http://youtu.be/nngna3WdYhs
Pretty neat video..... Made me turn on my cloud feature on my vega's.. Lol
hey Chris!!! Look at all that shimmer on the corals from the natural sunlight.... Sorta the shimmer you can't stand from LEDs!!!..
Big_Pun
Wed, 20th Mar 2013, 11:35 PM
I didn't see red shimmer, blue shimmer, white shimmer all separate it was one color shimmer like my mh :) disco effect isn't shimmer it's the separation of colors and also the shimmer is just diff. I see it more cause I have a mh tank and a led tank 20 feet apart

Wed, 20th Mar 2013, 11:53 PM
Idk.... I seen your tank....
and it seemed BLAAAAND!...lol
and you contemplated LEDs on your fixture.. Lol for what? Color!

lol pretty cool video

Wed, 20th Mar 2013, 11:57 PM
Or should I say Emily's tank.... Lmao
at 3:00 that's a bunch of shimmer, regardless of color.... That's a lot of annoying shimmer...
and my t5 helps destroy shimmer.... So does moving my return lines to calm the ripples up top...

Your like that old man that hates a progressing technology....
dont be that old man.....
Sure your MH work, but do you think they will be around in 10 years??.... I don't think so.... LEDs or another form of led will be....
