Fluval Edge Project

I have seen a post on here about an edge and i ahve had one for about 6 months that i purchased. as of right now it has a couple of damsels, hermit crabs, red fromia starfish, snails and a baby yellow watchman goby which i need to take out. the tank has cycled and is stable and i want ot put it in my bedroom for nothign but zoas. my first question is i want ot use cree leds but i am unsure of how many to put for zoas. can anyone chime in on this topic for me so that i can start building the lights for it. as of right now i have a marineland single bright led system over it but i have no corals in it yet. what have you experienced is the "best" light for zoas. i have read a lot on the subject and got many opinions but i want to see what has worked for others. thank you.

p.s. and i am accepting any zoas that someone might want to donate, lol, you can even name them after yourself.

Nice. I've wanted a fluval edge for my desk at work for awhile. Is it the LED version, or are you going to mod it? I would only put a few optic-less (or very wide) LEDs in there. Probably one small driver to push around 6 diodes. Colors are up to you. I'd probably shoot for 3 RB, 2 NW, and a violet.

i am going to mod it. i bought the led version but i didnt like it, it didnt seem the right amount or color of light. i have a driver and 2 spare 3w blue cree leds sitting around but i didnt want to buy anymore without getting some opinions. i was thinking of 6 cree leds and putting 5 on the outside of the top cover and one inside spread out evenly. the biocube 8 is in my office this one is going to be on my dresser

I would put them all close together in the middle, without optics, for better blending.

That's why you run wide or sans optics. Dimming is also a must.

i made two little "islands" for different zoas in the tank and i was going to place some leds over the tank. i was thinking possibly 6 leds, 3 for each island. a blue, white and royal blue for each of the islands. i was going to place 2 uv leds for "night lights" because my gf doesnt want a blue hugh in the room. i have noticed that with my other tank my zoas a doing great about 12" - 18" from the leds so i was going to place these leds about 15" above the tank.

I went into the fish store today, saw a couple pipe fish and decided that I needed them. Now my zoa tank which I never fully setup is now a pipefish tank for my Gulf Pipefish. I also bought live brine shrimp and they were chasing them down so I know they are eating live food. Tomorrow I will try frozen food. I haven't changed the lights to led yet because of funds and having to work on my 40 gallon tank so I still have cf lights over this tank but I am not going to have anything in it yet so it should be fine.

Pipefish are awesome. I've always wanted to try to keep them but never have. Looking forward to seeing how this build goes.
