So I have been thinking about keeping this new 29 gallon biocube that I got and replacing the 14 gallon biocube at work with it. I have a 14 gallon biocube at work with LED's in it. I bought the fixture off Rapid LED's website that fits the 14 gallon biocube. My thoughts were why can't I just buy a new heat sink that fits the 29 gallon tank and use the LED's from the 14 gallon tank on it. I figure since I'm not even running my LED's at full power because they are to strong (I have them at about 60%) why can't the same about of LED's light a 29 gallon at full power and still be able to grow coral. I don't think that I have read a post on here where anyone have switched to LED's and are running them at full power. What are some thoughts about this. I just can't afford a whole new LED setup right now.

I like your theory, but it's not about power - it's about coverage.

We get LOTS of LED's because each LED only covers so much territory.

I thought about that also. But if I stack the rock work in the middle of the tank (like most) biocubes that I have seen then coverage should not be an issue. I mean the way the LEDs are set up now there is plenty of over coverage in the 14 gallon biocube as it is. Now if I would spread them out over a larger surface then yes coverage would decrease.

SPS on rock work right under LEDs and LPS and zoas more off to the sides and softies even further away. Does this make since?
