Moon Coral

I picked up this Green Moon coral from Sherita several days ago and its been doing great. Fat and the tentacles out all the time. All of a sudden last night I noticed 1/2 of the corals tentacles were retracted and today all of them are. Believe it or not all my years in the hobby this is my 1st flavite LPS. All parameters are in check.

Is it common for them to do this? Everything else in the tank doing awesome as far as LPS. Blastos, Candy Cane and Scuba Steve all look great. Plump as can be.

did some further research and read that they will do this from time to time when full or for no apparent reason.

I would only worry if it withdraws to the point of skeleton showing Ray. My acans will do this from time to time. I read somewhere before that lps will do this to expel extra waste in their system.

I agree with Firewater on this one. I've seen this many times with my lps, and after several days to even a week or two, they will come out just as plump as before. The only time I would worry is if there is some flesh recession but retracted flesh and tentacles are very common. Hope this helps and I'll keep an eye on your post to see progression. Oh also to add, I've also seen my lps expel long black strands from it's mouth from time to time so that is nothing to worry about either. My educated guess is that their mouth not only intake food but is also used to extract the waste and uneaten food as well.
