Cleaning & BBQ'n
March 2nd, March 16th, April 13th & April 27th
I have those weekends off call from work (yeah I am on call a lot). I am going to drive down to Corpus Christi(about 1.5hrs from Pleasanton), pick a stretch of beach line that has a lot of trash, park my truck, walk down & start picking up trash until lunch time(I'm sure i'll need a few breaks along the way cuz I'm not 21yrs old anymore. I figure i'll get at least 10 bags of trash out of the ordeal. Heck - I got 3 bags just the other day from picking up litter near our freeway entrance.
Soon after I finish picking up that trash, i'll load it all up into the back of my full sized pickup, wash our hands & pull out the portable BBQ pit & throw some steak & chicken on it & have us a little late lunch/early dinner. Then I'm gonna drive home & take advantage of the open burn allowance in the country-ish area where I live by burning all that trash.
If anyone else would like to PARTAKE In the event (all are welcome), just send me a message or reply here in this thread.
This is NOT a MAAST sponsored event. That means that there won't be a speaker showing you how to frag corals or set up a tank. It will not be a meeting to pay your membership at (although - if the BOD want to include that- i'm not opposed to it). It's just an excuse for folks to get together.
I have not yet decided which of those 2 weekends I'm going to pull this off. I *will* update this thread on that though. If we settle on a weekend & rain or a heavy cold snap gets in our way - we'll reschedule it.
I was thinking if enough people want to get on board to enjoy this - we could designate 3-4 people to grill out WHILE the rest of us are walking & cleaning things up. Then at the end of our walk - we wash up & eat!
I am willing to bring a small BBQ pit, charcoal, lots of steaks & chicken. We also have a decent amount of paper plates & silverware. We will also have with us lots of RO water for drinking & washing of hands.
What I don't have any of is plastic cups.
There WILL be clear instructions given on where to drive to & where to go & what is expected as well as what is prohibited.
I don't really drink - but beer is certainly allowed within the group so long as it doesn't break any LOCAL laws.
Some folks have been known to catch fish/shrimp/crabs/anemones & all kinds of other sea life down there & have them successfully thrive in their aquariums. *i* won't be there for that purpose - but if you want to take advantage while out there then cool.
If the turnout is JUST us, then it'll be a trash pickin, hand washin, BBQ'n time.
If the turn out is a decent amount of people, we'll turn it into a party.
If the turn out is tremendous - maybe we'll do it quarterly?
This event is kid-friendly & animal friendly(so long as you leash them & pick up after them).
