I've decided for absolutely sure I will not use this.

It comes with an ice cap and coralvue ballasts.

Ill update with what the bulbs are when I get home and inspect it more. I'm pretty sure the T5 bulbs are Geissman.

no we just get together and figure out how we're going to build a bigger tank to accommodate all the incredibly large and colorful sps colonies we have, LOL. Just for the record I like LEDs and MH, I feel like a hybrid of the two would produce the best color and growth through. Granted Chris turned me on to the idea but it is actually a pretty good idea in my opinion.

:ph34r:A single LED has the capability of lasting more than 50000 hrs if handled correctly. Thats more than 17 years of life at 8hrs per day of never ever buying a bulb.

lol I don't care how long it last. I'm not in this hobby to save money on bulbs. that would like being a drag racer but having a Prius sure it will get to the finish line but your not winning any races.

When did this lifestyle become a race? I see it as a way to calm myself. Not compete.

nothing is wrong with my color, on point. but it's a lot of hard work and knowing water chemistry, certain things need to happen for coral to thrive. stability is key, not saying every number has to be what you read but steady ballpark numbers will be better than chasing numbers.

Mh is not a challenge.....

if Leroy can make it happen with MH anyone can.... I seen pics of his tank and I have to admit I never thought it was possible....

now lets see him try it with LEDs.... Lol

LED isn't any more challenging, especially if you're purchasing big name LED lights with the easy option like the AI Vega's, a better argument for LEDs is energy efficiency which I totally agree with. I ran the AI sols when they first came out and I've always been impressed but the light output, comparing my new MH/T5/LED fixture I get exceptional light output. Not saying I won't eventually get to LEDs on the new tank as that's my plan. I really would like to run the Vertex LED light just a little pricey at the moment at $2750 for a 4ft fixture.

LEDs are a challenge..... I've had the sols and now the Vegas.... It's all guess work.

mh, just have a good reflector, bulb and ballast..... Plug in and pick your height...

ive had the Vegas a few months now and everything was coming around and bam I start bleaching stuff....

I still love the lights..... Just don't like sps.... Too picky!!

60w per module. If I ran them at 100% that's 480w total.

I would love to proven completely wrong so I can buy something new!! I hope it happens, I like the small clean look of the led fixtures and controllability. the vertex eric wants is the only one I've seen that can compete or outperform mh. I'm thinking of buying my friends fixture..... but again even used it a lot of cash.

so I'm assuming those are Josh's previous lights. why did he trade for mh??

He traded cause he was tired of saving cash and didn't care for bulbs that last 5 million hours duh!

im a LED fan and i currently use them, correct me if i'm wrong but leds while they do last a long time, doesn't the spectrum shift from year to year, requiring it to be replaced eventually? and which is why its common to run leds at 70% or so and not the full 100% to stretch their efficiency period. food for thought.

I read an article documenting a 3% loss in efficacy per year when run at it maximum amperage.
