Bought this mantis in Austin a couple of weekends back and we decided we don't really have the room to set up our 100 gallon acrylic tank for him we paid $225 with tax and we want $200 for him. He is 10 inches long and is the hammer kind as far as we can tell. 18739

Thats a Lysiosquillina Maculata. And he is a spearing type of mantis. He will need 1.5 his body length in sans depth so he can properly burrow. Has he been eating? If so, what he been eating?

The diet on blue zoo is very generalized that animal doesnt have the ability to smash and spear like other mantis shrimp. Its strictly spear only. Its diet usually consists of fish, squid......basically anything it can impale!
Here is awsome info and the only guide I go by.

Something odd.....maybe 25/30" tank thats 24/30" deep. That animal never, ever comes out of its borrow so more than anything else it needs burrowing room. Id love something "cubish" so it doesnt take up a lot of floor room. 20x20x24/30 would be about **** perfect.

There is 4-5 inches and we have a PVC pipe "T" underneath the sandbed he built his mucus entrance at one end :-)
