Try the wave point LED fixture. I use one and my algae has doubled in size and no heat at all.
Thanks

Depending on how much you want to spend, kessil makes a 6500k led that's super bright. Probably overkill for cheato though.

Wave point led is great with little to no heat. You can pick them up on amazon for pretty cheap.

+1 on the wavepoint. I put a 10k 12" one on my uncs fuge 3 weeks ago and we had to toss out half the cheato this weekend.

I'm using a clamp on hood type light from Home Depot w a grow light, problem is cheto is growing decently, but clamp is really starting to rust bad, so want to invest in a decent light....:)

I'm also running and "promoting" the wavepoint led fixture. Although I'm running 4 24" T5 bulbs on my bug sump due to ease and cost.

I guess I'm the odd man out. I'm using a daylight 5100k fluorescent floodlight from Home Depot that hangs from an insulated pigtail. My macro growth is insane, the bulbs last forever (well over a year), and they are very inexpensive $13 for two).

You're not odd out, sherita. I'm using the same thing, and have been doing so since 2009.

I'm using a floodlight, but it is an LED floodlight in a plain ole socket.

I had thought about using a LED flood lamp... but now I'm struggling to keep my tank warm. Who'd a thunk?

I don't know, tony. I keep the house around 76 during the winter but that room has always been too hot or cold. Now without the mh it just doesn't have the heat.

With running all led and an open top my heater is always coming on. During the summer I run one heater and this winter I had to put an extra heater in.

Don't know if you're still looking, but I just purchased the reef-breeders fuge light for my build. Bought it with the gooseneck. Seems to be getting great reviews, but won't be able to personally say for a couple months.

I just purchased it this week and it looks like they're on back order for a couple weeks. I will post a pic once I receive. It looks like a PAR bulb.
