Maybe I'm looking at the wrong page, but it looks like there hasn't been a tank of the month since January of 2011..... Is there plans to keep this an ongoing thing? Is well as photo of the year.
i always love reading about other people's tanks and there full write ups. I'm sure with all these new led tanks, we can get some more contest going and have another tank of the month?

your correct. I didn't like how the old system worked should just be called a showcase because there was no real voting done. but showcasing diff tanks is a good idea.....

How about we have everyone write a writeup about their tank in a format similar to tank of the month with the same questions and just have one sub-forum with all the tank writeups.

So sorry you didn't like how we did it. ;)
There was voting at the end of the yer for a tank of the year.
The idea behind it was to get an in depth view of somebody else's system to give people a chance to maybe get some new ideas or learn from other people's experiences.
The people participating were either nominated or nominated themselves.
I liked that system because it allowed us to see such a wide variety of tanks.
Making it a vote for the tank of the month thing tends to scale it down to a) who posts a lot about their tank so lots of people will know about it and b) who has a lot of friends voting for them
We would have missed out on getting to know Cheryl's seahorse breeding adventure, Troy's awesome set up and many others simply because those are people that while putting a lot of effort into their tanks, may not be into posting updates all the time.
It was super fun working with Lorraine and Cory on the TOTM features and I really enjoyed it. I think Cory is planning on resurrecting it in a different capacity this year.
One problem we ran into was it was hard to get enough nominations to come up with one each month. Just when we had it nailed down, somebody had an algae outbreak or something.

Hi there,
Picture of the year, falls with POTM (Picture of the Month)
http://www.maast.org/showthread.php?74563-POTM-for-January-Coming-Soon!
Also, the POTQ (Picture of the Quarter) is also in this area..

Hope this helps.
For note: The POTM was converted to the POTQ due to lack of participation, etc. We are hoping for a better year this year. Karen, Corey & Lorraine did an awesome job maintaining this contests and their time spent on each one was phenominal. However, the POTM will be back soon and POT-Year contest in December. Looking forward to your participation.

i like the idea of tank showcase, BOD should know enough people on the site new and old to pick some to showcase, we can even have nominations. saying tank of the month is wrong title IMO, showcase sounds more educational showing peoples different techniques and insite to things others wouldnt know.

TOTM is on the agenda for this months meeting. We will be coming up with a simpler system because the TOTM crew had spent a bunch of there time in getting the pictures and articles out. I want to say when they came to my home they where there like 2 to 3 hours going over details and I swear Cory took hundreds of pictures looking for that perfect picture. So get ready we will be switching into over-drive very quickly with TOTM and also our first members meeting/workshop in February.

I am new to this hobby and I watch my tank and have taken pictures of some of the things I see going on I would like to share them with people that have the same hobby. I am sure my friends that aren't in the hobby get tired of me showing them pics, it's like someone showing them pics of their grandchildren.... You look but it's boring......
