So I have a fully encrusted rock about the size of a golf ball and want to cut it in half so that I can put it on my new aqua-mag so that it can start to encrust. The bottom side is lighter then the top since it doesnt get light. What can I use to cut it with? I dont have a table saw or anything like that. All I have is a small hand saw used for small detail work.

For cutting rock and just about anything small I like to use my multi tool. Dremel makes one but the really good $$$ one is a fein. The dremels are about $100 and come with a few different blades. It vibrates to cut to its easy to handle. They are good for all kinds of small jobs and little honey dues. It might be worth getting just to have around the house. BUT I do not know if the high rpm vibrations do damage to the coral tissue.....

it might just pop off the rock also. I fragged up some monti and once I started cutting it just broke off the rock, same with a chalice.

Don't use the table saw, the kerf alone would about 5% of the coral.

u could try a chissle and hit it one real hard, other wise hitting it more will shatter it.......

If you can put it in a vise or secure it well, a good diamond coated masonary or all-purpose blade (they look like wire instead of a traditional toothed blade) on a hacksaw would work.

Not this one. Its fully encrusted all the way around. It has grown all together to where you cant see the rock under the coral.

If I set it on another rock will it attach from where the coral makes contact with the rock? its been laying on my frag rack since before the frag swap and it has not attached itself to anyting. Not sure what I should do.

It can. I have a rainbow monti that was on a cube (thick tile?) and wrapped down the sides then starting spreading out. I broke the cube off the new growth after a while so it would grow in naturally.

I have cut live rock with a hacksaw before but not any corals.

If the coral is fully encrusted all the way around and I set it on another piece of rock will it start attaching where the coral is toching the rock? Its hard to explain but think of a golf ball that is fully encrusted to the point where you cant see any seems in the coral. If you lay that on another rock will it still spread where the two are touching? Or do I need to chip a piece off to expose the edges of the coral?

If the part that touch the other rock is in the shade, it would not encrust well. I think in your case where the coral encrust all the way around, the best way is to cut it into 2 or more frags and grow it from there. You can just shatter it with a hammer and flat screw driver. Anything will easily cut LR.
