Any experience here. What is the best ball check valve or double check valve out there for sw aquariums and why?

a good syphon break! ive never used check valves i always adjusted my return to right at the surface so air breaks syphon right away. i use my returns to agitate the surface and my power heads are just for flow in the tank.

I'm tagging along as well.

I thought someone on here had posted a check valve a ways back. It would be nice to be able to stop all that water from returning to the sump.

this suppose to be the best because you can service it.

i uses a pvc one from the local hardware store, it has a metal spring but i used it for 4 years on my 55g sw. after i took the tank down the spring still was fine and not corroted or pitted or rusted. as well as no ill effects on coral

That spring is what I've worried when thinking of using that particular valve.

Siphon break all the way. Or as Chris said, position your returns just under the normal water line.

I was entertaining the idea of a closed loop vs running a direct return from a large sump to holes in the middle of the tank to get rid of powerheads.

I will have zero powerheads in the tank. I think it makes for a clean look.
