Hey, guys as a couple of you know i'm downsizing from my 55 gallon to a 42 gallon. I am downsizing due to what i can afford maintenance wise, I picked up this 42 gallon from Eric its a very nice tank and just what i needed the dimensions are 24.5" Width x 21.5" Height x 18.5" Depth it also came with sump and stand the stand is 32" high great height for viewing, here are a couple of pictures.

Its reef ready with a 1" drain and a 3/4" return thinking about drilling another return? What do you guys think? For lighting I am going to go LED for sure and I am using some man made rock i got from Watergun, for my circulation i will use a rio 2500 along with a mp10w or wes i will have a reefkeeper on this as well, for my skimmer I will try and go with a SCA-301.

Lot of flow with the rio, that's my mixing pump and it pushes a good amount... You don't think it will be too much?

Sun, 6th Jan 2013, 01:32 AM
I have a restrictor on it right now and will do the same on this one.

Nice dimensions! Wouldn't worry about a second return. I've got a 60 cube tank and it only has the 1" drain and the 3/4" return. I use a y fitting and split up the return outlet right before it dumps back into the tank.

Cool, I'm no expert on flow... But I know that pump can push some water..
look forward to seeing what comes of this...

Thanks guys and Cory do you have a picture explaining how you plumbed it? Tony it sure can push some water lol and this tank i am going to try and go all out.

That's the only way in this hobby....
Im am really thinking on scraping my tank And going all out on a new one...
Well I have the lights and other goodies..... Just want to start with a fresh tank as mine was purchased used... But I feel it's like giving up... And I am no quitter... Lol

if your running a fuge low flow through sump is better and restricting a pump can cause it to run hot. so after it's been running a while touch it to see how warm it is. just take your time and plan this out, you have some experience under your belt so do everything you've wanted this time around.
reefreak
Sun, 6th Jan 2013, 01:57 AM
This will be slow, I am thinking of scratching the sump that came with it its small its 14"w 12"T 15.5 L what do you guys think? I don't think i can fit a refugium, i was thinking of running some caulerpa prolifia in my DT?
reefreak
Sun, 6th Jan 2013, 01:59 AM
I only have a 20" x 17" space under my stand.
Zen Reef
Sun, 6th Jan 2013, 02:08 AM
Instead of restricting the pump with just a ball valve, try putting a tee with a ball valve on it. That'll let you control the return rate and still let the pump run full throttle without the back pressure.
reefreak
Sun, 6th Jan 2013, 02:16 AM
I kind of understand im more of a visual learner so I would plumb the "T" would water trickle back in the sump from the side of the "T" ?
Zen Reef
Sun, 6th Jan 2013, 02:19 AM
Yup. The ball valve controls how much water is coming out of the tee back into the return chamber. The rest goes up your return line. I'll show you when you come by
reefreak
Sun, 6th Jan 2013, 02:23 AM
Alright cool, so any feedback on my fuge idea? Someone suggested i do a elevated fuge how would i do this with the limited amount of space I have?

Lol, I have to see what I can do I would run it behind the wall but that's where the doorway is. Maybe a hang on the back Refugium in the sump?

Jeremey, lowes sells a 1'' 90 degree elbow for about 4$.. I couldn't find a pipe bender so an associate pointed me in that direction. Works great, it has two slip ins with two screws to hold the ends of pipe into place.
