So... I wanted to know how you guys run your wave maker. Is yours on 24/7 or is it only on when your lights come on?

All the time, I only run a tunze wavebox and the sump return and am afraid of having the wavebox off for eight plus hours

I turn the wave maker off at night.

Tunze has the photocell that cuts off the pump when the light go out. I guess it's really personal preference. If you don't have any other flow than the wavebox, you should leave it on. IMO.

i keep the wavebox running all the time for two reasons:

1. flow is too low without it on for long periods of time
2. when you start it back up after having it off for a while, it stirs up all the junk that settled out and the tank doesnt look clear for a couple of hours.

it really is amazing how well the wavebox keeps detritus suspended in the water column so the filtration can take care of it.

I've kept mine on for the last few days, no wave yet, but I think that may have something to do with the power head I put in the tank last night.

I've been fine tuning the frequency for over 24 hrs. It's soo touchy. It'll create a wave for awhile then counter act with it just slightly enough to kill the whole wave then start over... I've finally got it consistent. Just takes a little bit of patience.

If your using tunze you can auto tune it.
But the reason I asked this question is I currently use a k-1050 powerhead which is very powerful in there and the tunze wavemaker so when the light turns off so does the tunze and it still has the powerhead circulating but I feel it is just too much flow in there. So I may pull the powerhead out and just run the tunze 24-7.

What auto tune?

You may have a different controller then me. I just hold the auto adjust button down for 2 second and then just sit and wait until I feel like it has enough of a wave then I press it again to set it there. If I do not set it it will just keep cycling over and over.

Ben and I have the same controller.

Ave came over and fixed mine and now I'm sloshing all back and forth. He did it in like five minutes.

I've also got a lot of splash in the overflow when I tune the return pump back up.

I'm worried I'll have the sloshing sound in the overflow as well. Especially since my overflows will be on the same side.

ben, you can run tall standpipes that keep the water level right near the top of the overflow, and that will prevent the "waves on the beach" noise.

I had a similar idea. I was gonna pick your brain tomorrow.

That is how I set me overflow up and it is completely silent.
