I picked it up after louis recommended it, I know it's just a bandaid for the source but if u need your tank free of cyano and fast, this stuff is awesome!
Put it in Thursday and prepped a water change for when it recommended me to do so, within 48 hours...
The next day stuff was turning brown and getting stringy, this morning completely gone.... Did my water change plug back in the skimmer and it went nuttz for a few gallons. I let it pour into a bucket and replaced with fresh saltwater.....
It's too early but I will see how long until the cyano returns, hopefully never....

At first I was like man how long is this going to last....
3 gallons later it chilled.... By the time I got home from a little Xmas shopping and dinner it settled.... So I adjusted my skimmer and its looking good... Skimmer is kicking out some thick foam now... Micro bubbles are gone.

It absolutely does work, gets that cyanobacteria right out of the tank. When I struggle with cyano from time to time, as I am right this minute, it sure is tempting to go buy a box of this stuff and I know it will be gone in a couple of days.
But so will my pods, and some of the other fragile balances of micro-life, the good bacteria that needs to stay in balance in our little ecological systems that we keep in glass boxes of water. And then the cyano just comes back anyhow, because the factors that led to its production are still an issue. So I just blow it off the rocks with a turkey baster and do a water change and play with flow and look at my water chemistry and try to have patience. Sigh. Patience sucks.

Exactly what I did a few days ago...
I moved the mp40s and it seemed to help, I also lowered one of my 40s before this out break occurred. I am hoping maybe thats what helped the growth,we will see in a few days....
while doing my water change yesterday I altered my plumbing to help improve filtration, don't think this will help with the cyano but will definitely keep my sump a little cleaner...

I've been using chemiclean for years. I usually use it once or twice a year. Some of my sps don't like the stuff and will brown out a bit but color comes back within a few days

I don't get outbreaks of cyano. I run bio-pellets/carbon dosing it takes care of that for me and as long as I dose/test a few elements everything stays happy including softies.

I have never had any cyano in the 2 years this tank has been up.. Until I started adding some sand, moved my power heads, played with the 2 T5s I was running, adding sand to my fuge and something else... Lol shouldn't have tinkered with anything but you know how we are....

Man, I've always had cyano... The other day I woke up after posting that I didn't have any and there it was on my gsp.
I am running carbon, generally speaking I only have it in my sump which is okay by me.

I do the same except my carbon dosing is dr Tim's Eco balance to keep bio diversified and of course waste away. cyano is such a PITA, no rhyme or reason for it sometimes

I buy this stuff in the BIG size (900 gallons). I use it about 2 or 3x a year in my FW tank. I fertilize for the plants, and they cyano (it's green in FW) starts running wild. Great product.
BTW, don't buy the liquid. I've had some that didn't work - maybe old stock?

It works but to be safe keep it away from your SPS when adding to your tank.

I wonder what would happen if you used chemi-clean for a few days, then dosed a large amount of bacteria. Has anyone tried that? Would the aerobic bacteria out compete the cyano? I've also battled cyano in my large tank but never had a problem with it in a nano tank. Also, I wonder if you had a super low flow area lit with 5600k lighting in your sump to harvest cyano, if it'd help control it in your display. Similar to a turf scrubber but without the flow. I agree that cyano is the devil. Cyano and aiptasia have to be the two worst things in this hobby.

well, I tried nudis and they seemed to work but must have died or got eaten by my wrasse...... so that was a waste of $$$.... have about 12 pepps in there and still not a dent.......
So I heard all the warnings about file fish but decided wth..... I am a desperate little reefer right now... so I gave him a shot. If he pokes at any of my corals.... i will feed him to the neighborhood cats!!!!
