So we just moved into our new house and im ready to set up a 55g but don't know if i can still use the dry rock i have since it was peed and crapped on by cats.
I downgraded my tank to live in an apartment for a year so i had some of the rock(60#) and sand(5g bucket full) outside in a container. When we began packing i moved the rock and noticed that is smelled like pee, once i moved the rock i sifted through the sand and noticed chucks of crap >:(
I tossed the sand but can the rock be salvaged?
If so how?
What do i have to do to clean it?

Urine is mainly ammonia, so if you cure the rock in a garbage can with a heater and power head you should be fine. Just treat it like you would treat dead rock that had come out of a tank.
ive actually heard of folks using urine to start the cycle in their tanks, so I don't think you've got a big issue here.

That's how some old-schoolers used to do it.

Makes you wonder who looked at their new tank and went........ I think I will pee in that.
Just doesn't seem right, does it?

Yes it does...
Did they straight up pee in it, did they pee in a cup first then transfer, was it their own pee.

It would suck if you managed to deliver the pee directly, look out the window and notice that your neighbors are looking at you... curiously, and with a tinge of disgust...

I think you're the only one tall enough to do that Allan...

I had an image of standing precariously on the edge of a chair...

If you are in need of pee soaked sand let me know. I dumped a bunch of sand in my back yard and **** on it often when I'm barbequing and drinking on the weekend.
