cyano!! keep up with water changes and gfo. cyano is always followed by any change to your system, people get it from new lights, running gfo, changing salts adding bio pellets. it's just part of the cycle, I'm running dr Tim's waste away, also zeovit coral snow works too. you have a older established system so changing things throws off the system balance. also manual removal when you syphon put water helps

What Chris said and up your water change routine a little. With patience and diligence it will slowly go away. If you have been fragging and messing in the tank along with the changes you mentioned that is definitely a contributor. Good luck.

Who's got or carries Dr. Tim's "WAste Away"?

I've seen it at ADs and ER.
Not sure it's absolutely necessary. I think the others are on target with a few more water changes. I've had it much worse in the old tank. Huge tendrils floating up in the water current held aloft with air bubbles.
I must confess, when I first saw your post I was thinking of an algae that I've found in my tank. It has a velvet touch to it, thick, and comes up off the rock in tufts. It's like a reddish algae... but not cyano, which is what you actually have.

it's a really good product cleans up a old tank pretty fast without harming anything else. if you find it, you will be happy with the outcome.

I know what you're talking about Allan. I had it in my 29, but it melted off the rocks when I moved everything to the 105. It was thick and fuzzy.

Yep, that's it. I noticed that over time it would go away on its own.
