Thinking on upgrading from my reef octopus extreme 200 skimmer to something with a smaller foot print but don't want to sacrifice skimming.....

If there is one that I should look at lmk....

For reference my skimmer measures in at 16"wx12"dx 32"h

I am adding a gfo reactor tonight so skimmer upgrade is next, along with new return pump....

i got a seaside aquatics from ER. Just a overhaulled Bubble Magnus and it skims like a champ. The one i have on my 40 gallon is rated to 150 gallons i believe and it is 6"x9"x18"? not sure on the height. I know the foot print cause i had to make a stand to get it up out of the water. Uses a Sicce pump. Quite cause it is in my bedroom and produces bubbles like crazy. I'm a fan.

I have a sc302a which is pretty much a copy of the bubble magus skimmers...just like SWC did. It's dimensions are 9"x9.5"x18". If you want to try it out just let me know....I have two of them. It was what I had on my 92 corner tank, and had bought another for the 95 cube just before I bought the half circle. This skimmer is the typical cone type with bubble plate and pump is inside the body of the skimmer. If you think it will work you are welcome to try it out first...

Just looked at the seaside aquatics....looks identical to the sc302a. Funny how all these companies blatantly copy each other. China...is there anything they do not copy?

I can vouch for the SCA skimmers and BM. I am really pleased with the build quality and performance of both my NAC9 and my SCA-303. The NAC9 is not a small footprint though. The footprint is the reason I bought the SCA-303.

Body Diameter: 8 inches.

everyone has a basic cone shape of some sort or another... when making my decision i looked at pump performance and if was a pump i could get easily state side or have warrantied easily, i picked the seaside aquatics because the sicce syncra pump(watch for skimmers that use the psk-2500, junk). my other option was one of the octos using the bubble blaster pumps such as 2000sss or 1000sss, space saver design pump under skimmer.

My skimmer works.... And pulls some nasty junk.... I've used it these 2 years since joining the hobby, so idk how good is good...

I would like a space saver design and yes I am factoring in being able to get parts quickly...

Ya nothing's broke but its been in use for 2 years with me And since I bought this whole set up used, who knows how long before that..... I did buy a new pump for it awhile back so I know it's okay...

I just want to replace everything within time....

shoot which reminds me my return pump is as old maybe older... The mag 9.5 might get replaced with a sicce soon.

how about the new ATI PowerCone? http://reefbuilders.com/2012/10/31/ati-powercone-sophisticated-consumer-protein-skimmer/

All kidding aside, AVAST Marine has a pretty nice mod of the Seaside Aquatics/Bubble Magus as well: http://www.avastmarine.com/ssc/do/product/proteinskimmers/CS1

And if you're a DIY guy, they have a kit in which you can build your own: http://www.avastmarine.com/ssc/do/product/youbuilt/CS1-Cone-Skimmer-Kit

I had the same issue, trying to get as much skimming as possible in a finite amount of space. I went with the reef octo SRO5000sss (the sss has the bubble blaster build in under the skimmer body). Mine works great, and takes up much less space than "normal" skimmers rated for that kind of water volume. I'd highly recommend the appropriate size SRO SSS skimmer.

I am running the reef octopus sss1000. Been fairly happy with it.

My complaint is when it comes to cleaning time. My next skimmer will be able to be taken apart for ease of cleaning.

Is that cause the pump is inside?

I hate that my pump is on the side cause of all the real estate taking up but it's very easy to get it out to clean..

No. The pump is just attached to the bottom by a nipple. The chamber is sealed where the bubble plate is and I can't get my fat arms in there to clean.
