I want to remove my frag rack from the display and put in the sump instead. Right now I have my skimmer in the middle chamber which I will move to the first chamber so I can house and grow frags in the middle chamber.

The area is about 10"x12"x7", I was thinking of just using the wave point 12" HO led fixture but wanted to get an idea of what else was out there.

Anyone have their frags in the sump? What light do you run?

Right now that wave point is hard to beat in price and its mounting arm...

Everything else will either be more expensive, larger in size, add more heat and will have to be rigged up....

I wanted the wave point, until I figured out it wouldn't clamp to my 40B sump. So, I have some blue/white LEDs on order and am going to build my own strips. Should be even cheaper than the WP fixture, but not as fancy of a housing. They only use 1W LEDs in the WP fixtures too.

I hear ya, I thought about the k2 viper but not only is it way more watts(more heat/electricity) but then theres dealing with replacing the bulb every 9-12 months.

Then I thought about a par 30 fixture, which seems to be really nice but would double almost triple the price of the wave point and a fixture that would rarely be seen.

Sounds interesting man, can you give any details?

You could go rrascos way and build a unit......

I was going to go that route until I saw the wave point. I wanted to use warm leds and just a couple of blue...

I saw I think on rapidled they had a square heatsink....

It's kinda hard justifying building a unit from scratch with the price and function of the wave point. I may just wait and see how I like it over my pico then order one for my sump.

Not really. At less than $0.50/ea for the LEDs and $10 or so for a DC power supply and a couple bucks for some aluminum c-channel at a box store and you are good to go.

I do like the WPs, I was going to buy one, but they won't clamp onto a tank with trim.

Are those 3w leds you use and where do you order them from? About how many leds can you run on one DC power supply?

3w LEDs are a little more expensive, they will run about $2.50/ea. I have used 3W BL for my DT from Aquastyle. You could alternately use CREE from Rapid but they are a little more like $4.50/ea.

The 1W LEDs I have coming are from ebay, it was about $25 for 70. 50 white and 20 blue. The WP fixtures only use .25W LEDs. Wattage isn't as important as the current you run them at. The only reason I am using 1W is for a FOWLR and for a fuge. I would only recommend 3W for a DT.

That depends on what DC power supply you use. You have to match the voltage of the power supply to the voltage drop across each diode and make sure it has enough current to handle their draw.

These work off that principle. I have some knockoff versions of these, came with six three-LED pods run off a simple power supply. It's not as clean to run them that way, the power is better regulated by a driver, but it most certainly works.

Interesting, never thought to run something like this all linked together. I'm going to have to do some research as far as wiring all these leds together. Thanks for the help

I'm hoping to get mine done relatively soon, as soon as I get the LEDs in anyways. Once they are complete I'll make sure to post the details.

These are the cheap moonlights I have. That's a 12v 2A ac/dc adapter. No idea what the led specs are.
